Audience members have praised the intense drama that delves into incel culture and the manosphere. Digital Spy awarded Adolescence five stars, stating: “The finest dramas possess an extraordinary ability to deeply affect you and initiate dialogue, and Adolescence achieves both.
Exploring the intricacies of the series, Netflix revealed a heartfelt aspect from episode two where Eddie pays his respects at the location of Katie’s tragic death by placing flowers.
In the narrative, Graham, an actor from ‘Boiling Point’, stated that there is a lovely tune at the finale, and the director, Phil, had a splendid notion right from the start.
He expressed his intention as creating a choir for young voices to sing a specific song that had been in his mind since the beginning.
The tune is Sting’s 1987 hit single titled ‘Fragile’, which contains the following lyrics: “The rain persists to pour down/Like tears from a celestial body, like tears from a celestial body/The rain continues to express/Our vulnerability, our vulnerability.
However, what makes this scene particularly poignant is that amidst the chorus of children’s voices, you can distinctly hear Emilia Holliday, the actress portraying Katie, singing “how fragile we are” repeatedly and quite powerfully.
Graham went on to say: “What’s lovely about it is, we tapped into the school’s own choir and children from the local community.
“The girl singing this is the girl who played the girl that got killed.”
Netflix expressed their emotions with: “I’m tearing up once more.”, but it seemed many viewers were feeling the same way, flooding the comment section with expressions of sadness and admiration for the show’s creative team and actors.
User 1 expressed concern by saying, “What made you decide to reveal such distressing information to us? 😨😨😨,” and User 2 found it both sad yet impressive, commenting, “Wow – that’s truly heart-wrenching, but incredibly well thought out. I can’t help but marvel at the depth of detail in every aspect of this series. It’s simply mind-boggling.
One person commented: “It’s not just intelligent, but it’s also becoming chilling upon rewatch. It significantly enhances the scene. Truly, it’s a work of art at its finest.
One person simply summarised: “Goosebumps, the entire show.”
Adolescence is available to stream on Netflix now.
