Despite his young age, Owen Cooper gave an impressive performance in ‘Adolescence.’ Tonight, he’ll discover if his portrayal of a difficult teenager in this year’s most popular TV show will earn him an Emmy Award – and potentially make him the youngest male to ever receive one.
At just 15 years old, the actor received a nomination for best supporting actor, one of thirteen nominations total for the show he stars in – a series centered around a teenager accused of murder.
Fourteen-year-old Cooper, a schoolboy from Warrington, was the guest of honor at pre-Emmy parties in Hollywood on Friday night. He was joined by his parents, Noreen, a carer, and Andy, who works in IT.
Cooper expressed that this experience is unforgettable. He’d be thrilled to break the record, calling everything ‘next level.’ He also reflected on how different things were a year ago, admitting he wasn’t sure what his future held.
‘Never could I have believed that this show would change my life in the way that it has.’
At a pre-Emmy party hosted by Netflix, Stephen Graham – nominated for Best Actor for his role as Cooper’s father – and Ashley Walters, who plays detective Luke Bascombe, were the center of attention. Meanwhile, Irish actress Sharon Horgan – up for Best Actress for *Bad Sisters* – met Monica Lewinsky at a party held by talent agency WME.
Several other British actors are also nominated tonight, including Gary Oldman for his role in ‘Slow Horses’, Aimee Lou Wood and Jason Isaacs for ‘The White Lotus’, Colin Farrell for ‘The Penguin’, and Bella Ramsey for ‘The Last of Us’.
It comes after Adolescence swept up two major prizes at the 2025 National TV Awards.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always thrilled to see fresh talent recognized! I was so excited to hear that the critically acclaimed series took home the award for Best New Drama – it really stood out amongst some strong contenders like Rivals, Code of Silence, Ludwig, and MobLand. It’s a fantastic show, and totally deserving of the win!
Cooper won the award for Best Drama Performance for his role as the troubled teen killer Jamie Miller, beating out even his co-star, Stephen Graham, to claim the prize.
The 15-year-old couldn’t be at the UK event because he traveled to the US for the Emmys, which took place over the weekend. His friend and co-star from ‘Adolescence,’ Amari Bacchus, accepted the award for him.
He also played a video message from Owen, which had been recorded beforehand. In the video, Owen warmly thanked his fellow actors, everyone he worked with, and his fans.
Honestly, I never in a million years thought *Adolescence* would completely take over my life the way it has. It’s just… everything now. I’m totally obsessed, and I can’t even explain how much it’s affected me. It’s more than just a show, you know?
The positive response from viewers really highlights how meaningful and well-received the show was – we all created something special.
Owen’s recent win at the NTA Awards has boosted his chances at the Emmy Awards this Sunday. If he wins for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, he’ll make Emmy history.
If he wins, this 15-year-old from Warrington will be the youngest male to ever win at the ‘TV Oscars’ in its 76-year history. He’s being recognized for his work in a hugely popular Netflix series that received a total of 13 nominations.

Scott Jacoby currently holds the record as the youngest male to win an award, receiving Best Supporting Actor in 1973 at age 16 for his role in the drama *That Certain Summer*.
The Daily Mail reported that Owen would be nominated for Best Supporting Actor, not Best Actor. Experts considered this a smart strategy, believing it would significantly increase his odds of winning.
He’s competing against his co-star, Ashley Walters, who also received his first Emmy nomination for the same award, recognizing his performance as DI Luke Bascombe.
Javier Bardem is also nominated for his performance in *Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story*. Bill Camp and Peter Sarsgaard received nominations for *Presumed Innocent*, and Rob Delaney is recognized for his work in *Dying For Sex*.
Adolescence is up for the award for Best Limited or Anthology Series, competing against shows like Black Mirror, Dying for Sex, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and The Penguin.
