Adolescence has gathered an impressive number of viewers in its initial fortnight, indicating it’s poised to set another viewership record.
Earlier this month, the highly praised new drama co-created by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne hit screens, centering around a 13-year-old boy who stands accused of killing his female classmate.
According to Netflix’s latest announcement, the show garnered a staggering 66.3 million views within its second week of premiere, setting a new record as the UK’s most popular title on Netflix to date.
More recently, Adolescence has become a groundbreaking milestone by leading the UK’s weekly television rankings among streaming shows. This remarkable achievement surpasses established TV staples such as Death in Paradise and The Apprentice on traditional broadcast channels.
In just its first week, the premiere episode of the show was viewed by 6.45 million people, breaking the previous record set by Fool Me Once during its initial week and attracting the largest weekly audience for a British streaming TV series.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the phenomenal reception of “Adolescence” ever since it first hit the screens. It debuted with a flawless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes (now standing at an impressive 99%), and has sparked countless conversations among viewers about its thought-provoking themes.
In a five-star review, Digital Spy praised Adolescence as the standout show of the year, stating that it has an unparalleled ability to deeply touch viewers’ hearts and stimulate meaningful discussions.

Previously, Thorne discussed the distinctive approach of the series, where each episode is filmed in a single continuous shot. In an interview with DS, Thorne stated that this technique “compels you to be selective”.
As a captivated onlooker, I couldn’t help but reflect on his words: “I can’t weave the complete tapestry; instead, I can only stitch fragments. I can gaze upon one aspect for an hour, then must turn away and rest my gaze. The unwavering stare compels me towards intricacies, and perhaps it entices the audience to delve into complexities as well.
Adolescence is available on Netflix now.
