Adolescence knocked off the UK top spot on Netflix by “riveting” and “heartbreaking” new series

Adolescence has been knocked off the UK top spot on Netflix by a “heartbreaking” new series.

The four-episode series, centered around a 13-year-old boy wrongly accused of murdering a schoolmate, has been met with critical acclaim and high viewership since its premiere a month ago. It’s made history as the first streaming show to lead the UK’s weekly television rankings, also setting a new record for the most-watched UK production on Netflix in terms of viewership.

As a dedicated gamer, I was thrilled to see my favorite series claiming the top spot on Netflix’s UK Top 10 TV shows for most of March. However, it seems a gripping new true crime documentary, “Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer,” has snatched that position from us lately.

The story, titled “Gone Girls,” delves into the investigation of Rex Heuermann, a Long Island serial killer currently facing charges for the deaths of seven women, by exploring the experiences of his victims, their families, and the law enforcement officers involved in the case.

As a devoted viewer, I’ve found this series to be a profoundly moving account of injustice and corruption, as well as the extraordinary resilience of the families affected. This is according to a review by Leisure Byte, while Decider adds that it offers a more comprehensive portrayal of the devastation the killer inflicted on their victims’ lives.

In an interview with Variety, filmmaker Liz Garbus shared that working on the project titled ‘Gone Girls’ was an intriguing experience for her, as it required her to navigate sensitive territories and form bonds with the involved families.

She mentioned that many true crime stories often center around the offender, which can lead to some reluctance about being part of a narrative that might revolve around him or his spouse, or contributing to a show that exaggerates these crimes. To address this, we had numerous discussions, and trust was gradually established over time.

Currently, Stephen Graham is pondering over the idea of creating another story based on the hit series, Adolescence, as its popularity has been quite substantial.

He suggested, “Let’s take a look at the numbers,” he said. “And indeed, it’s conceivable that we could create another tale.

Hannah Walters, who is both an executive producer and Graham’s wife, mentioned: “A prequel for ‘Adolescence’ isn’t on the cards. However, there’s a lot of potential in exploring the one-shot format and delving into human nature once more. And to answer your question, everything seems promising… everyone’s content, if I may say so.

Currently streaming on Netflix, you can explore two captivating narratives – “Adolescence” and “Gone Girls”, both related to the Long Island Serial Killer case.
