Adolescence break-out star Owen Cooper landed debut movie role thanks to Stephen Graham

Adolescence actor Owen Cooper has just landed his debut movie, all thanks to Stephen Graham.

Currently, the young actor is causing quite a stir in Graham’s intense four-part Netflix series, centered around a 13-year-old boy accused of murder. This role follows his debut acting experience and leads to his next project – a remake of Wuthering Heights, directed by the renowned Emerald Fennell from Saltburn.

In the upcoming production, Cooper is set to portray a younger Heathcliff, similar to Jacob Elordi’s character. Notably, Margot Robbie is also part of this project. In an interview with Variety, Cooper mentioned that the films “Adolescence” and “Graham” were the reasons he secured the role.

Cooper said, “Stephen suggested his representative to me, which led to Maddi [Bonura of Independent Talent] watching part of the first episode. That’s how I landed the role in ‘Wuthering Heights’.

I mentioned that we’ve got about two more weeks to wrap up filming, and while it’s taken some getting used to working on a non-continuous shooting schedule, I must say, I’m thoroughly enjoying every moment of it!

Cooper mentioned that Fennell, Robbie, and Elordi are all “pleasant individuals,” elaborating that Elordi is “constantly engaging with everyone.

When questioned about his long-held ambition to become an actor, Cooper admitted that he’d only recently developed a desire for acting, around two years prior.

He remarked, “It hasn’t been too long.” Growing up, I had dreams of becoming a soccer player. To this day, I can’t pinpoint exactly what sparked this ambition, but the desire was there, burning strong within me.

After attending my lessons, I found great pleasure in them. Later on, I became involved in a small agency project. Unexpectedly, I received a self-tape request for the show called “Adolescence,” and it all stemmed from there.
