‘Adolescence’ actors and co-creators celebrate their ‘magical’ Emmy nods
The creators of the critically acclaimed Netflix drama “Adolescence,” instinctively sensed that their storyline revolving around a 13-year-old boy wrongly accused of murdering a fellow student held unique promise.
Moreover, Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, both creators and executive producers, felt elated upon hearing their U.K. drama was nominated for 13 Emmys in the limited series category. However, what truly brought them joy was recognizing that the hard work of the entire cast and crew was being acknowledged.
During a video chat with Thorne, Graham expressed that there was a unique, enchanting quality to this series, truly embodying an ensemble cast’s collaboration. They were both recognized for their writing and production efforts on the drama, while Graham received another nomination for his exceptional portrayal of the heartbroken father of the teenage suspect.

Here are the nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards.
Graham expressed sincere appreciation not just for the 13 nominations we received, but for the recognition given to each individual, every player, and every crew member for our joint success. Our work isn’t like playing golf; it’s about cultivating a unified awareness among us all.
The four-part miniseries generated quite a buzz as one of the standout dramas of the year. It received much acclaim for its unique method of capturing each episode in a single uninterrupted take by the camera.
Thorne commented on the buzz about the series, “I believe we were incredibly fortunate in capturing a specific moment, location, and atmosphere. Additionally, we had quite a bit of luck working with the amazing people we collaborated with.
Win or lose, plans are already being formed for an Emmy night celebration.
Thorne mentioned that Stephen has announced our plan to travel together in a minivan to the Emmys,” he said. “It’ll be quite something to walk the red carpet together, creating a united front.

In Netflix’s latest miniseries, penned and headlined by a gifted actor from Britain, we follow a gripping tale unfolding in a single, continuous take, depicting the repercussions of a brutal crime against a child.
In the minibus, you’ll find Owen Cooper, known for his role as the young suspect, and Erin Doherty, who portrayed a psychologist. These two actors, both nominated for their supporting roles, appeared together in the third episode of the drama. Their characters were pitted against each other in a nerve-wracking struggle of wills during this episode.
Cooper and Doherty discussed the show and their nominations in a separate video interview.
Congratulations on your nominations and amazing performances. Where were you when you got the news?
In my living room, I turned on the television. Soon enough, I discovered that we had been nominated 13 times. That’s absolutely insane!
Doherty explained that he purposely waited for a call regarding the nomination since his agent had promised to contact him regardless of the outcome. Upon receiving multiple calls, he was pleasantly surprised and thrilled about the recognition for the show.
Owen, you’re making history as the youngest Primetime Emmy nominee in a limited series .
Cooper: I came across that news recently. To tell you the truth, it’s difficult for me to process such thoughts. It’s just unbelievable. Frankly, I’m at a loss for words to express it properly.
Were you two aware, when you were working on the third installment, that it was turning out to be something truly exceptional?
Cooper: Indeed, we anticipated it would affect numerous households and spark discussions. However, receiving 13 nominations was unexpectedly delightful – a wonderful bonus to an already astonishing success. The show’s triumph has been nothing short of astounding.
Doherty expressed that everyone involved, both on-screen and behind-the-scenes, were passionate about being a part of this project. They had the bravery to tackle such a sensitive topic. We recognized the significance of the narrative. It’s uncertain if something similar will resonate as strongly as this one has.
Owen, what impressed you the most about Erin’s performance?
Cooper: She’d come up with witty responses on the fly, and her delivery would be infused with even more charisma.
And Erin?
Essentially, what he said was identical to my thoughts. It seemed as if he was getting tired and scattering various items around. The experience felt like the most thrilling tennis match I’ve ever been involved in. Not every day does an actor, who has been working for four decades, offer such excitement. Owen possesses talent, skill, and courage. Diving into such a challenging, nerve-racking, and overpowering environment requires exceptional ability. To remain focused and present throughout the experience is quite rare. I am incredibly proud of him, and fortunate to have witnessed his debut, as he will continue to perform for many more years.
I know it’s early, but any thoughts on how you’ll feel on Emmy night?
Cooper: I’m not going to feel anxious about it. Winning isn’t important to me. I’ll simply arrive, enjoy good food, interact with many people. And I’ll be in Los Angeles, where the climate is pleasant. Whatever the outcome at the end of the day, I won’t let it bother me.
Doherty exclaimed, “Victory is ours! Our production earned an impressive 13 nominations, ensuring our presence at the event. The evening promises to be unforgettable, a grand celebration we’ll relish!
