As a seasoned moviegoer and music lover, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness upon hearing Adele’s recent announcement of taking a “big break” from music. The British balladeer, who has captured our hearts with her soulful voice and poignant lyrics since the release of her debut album in 2008, has always been open about the ups and downs of fame and the toll it takes on her personal life.
Wish her warmth and support for her new projects: According to Adele, she’s going to take some time off from making music following her performances in Las Vegas and Munich this summer.
In an interview with German broadcaster ZDF, the Grammy-winning artist admitted that she feels creatively drained and has no intentions of producing new music anytime soon. This revelation was made as she prepares for a series of ten performances in Munich starting August 2nd, and as she brings her “Weekends With Adele” residency in Las Vegas to an end.
After years of hard work, the 36-year-old musician expressed a desire for some time off to explore new creative pursuits. Surprisingly, she shared that she hardly ever sings at home nowadays.
The well-known British singer-songwriter, who achieved success with her 2008 smash hit “Chasing Pavements,” expressed that she yearns for all aspects of her previous, less famous life.
She remarked, “I believe anonymity suits me best,” adding through BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). “It’s wonderful to create music at any moment, and my audience responds positively. This is something hard to imagine. However, the aspect of fame repels me immensely.”
It’s astonishing to me that so many people take interest in my music and my singing. I can’t help but find it remarkable and never quite ordinary. Therefore, the rewards make it all worthwhile for me.
On Wednesday, The Times reached out to the singer’s representative for a response, but no comment was given right away.
In 2021, Adele unveiled her fourth studio album, “30,” and opted to reside at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum instead of embarking on a tour. Initially planned for a January 2022 debut, the residency was suddenly canceled just hours before its scheduled opening. Adele attributed the cancellation to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and related complications with supply chains. However, she later disclosed that her creative requirements had not been met, leaving her feeling that the show lacked soul and intimacy within the large 4,000-seat Colosseum venue.
Adele, known for her hits “Hello” and “Rolling in the Deep,” officially began her Las Vegas residency, titled “Weekends With Adele,” in November 2022. Due to overwhelming demand, she extended the engagement twice, resulting in a total of 45 weekends and 90 shows up to now. The residency is scheduled to conclude in November.
I was surprised by how profoundly affecting the relatively small crowd has been for me during this interaction. Every evening in Munich is sure to amplify these feelings. It’s a wonderful experience, a sharing of energy that leaves me feeling uplifted. (First person perspective)
The renowned singer often grabbed news attention throughout her performances, and in February, she was forced to cancel some shows due to falling ill. More recently, an audience member shouted “Pride sucks” at one of her June concerts, prompting the vocalist to label him as “ridiculous.” In a conversation with ZDF, she expressed that anything sets her off now.
“Absolutely everything,” she said. “I’m 36 years old. I’m old and grumpy now.”
In Munich, the number of people attending each show could potentially grow up to 74,000, making it 18 times larger than the initial audience size for the superstar’s performance at the Munich Messe. Announced with just four shows in January, she later added six more due to extraordinary fan interest.
Prior to starting her Las Vegas shows and even before extending the engagement, the renowned British artist shared her intentions of taking a sabbatical from music, potentially exploring English literature for a degree or embarking on an acting journey. Later on, she has frequently spoken about growing her family with partner Rich Paul, whom she affectionately refers to as her “husband.” Moreover, she has voiced her desire to provide her son Angelo, whom she co-parents with ex-spouse Simon Konecki, with a sibling.
During a concert in January, she expressed a possible intention to go on tour once more following the release of her next album, “30.” Yet, she made it clear to an audience member that she wasn’t eager to begin working on that project right away.
