Adam Thomas shares ‘life-changing’ health update revealing he’s pain-free for the first time in two years after diagnosis
Adam Thomas shares a new development about his battle with arthritis, expressing to his audience that his life has undergone a significant transformation.
Previously known Emmerdale actor, aged 36, received a diagnosis for psoriatic arthritis – a persistent health issue marked by joint pain, swelling, and stiffness, which unfortunately has no cure – prior to his participation in Strictly Come Dancing in the year 2023.
Since the end of 2024, Adam has been open about the hardships he’s faced, sorrowfully disclosing that a severe pain condition has left him with limited mobility.
Previously, the actor openly shared that he’d been experiencing daily discomfort for a span of two years, following his diagnosis with rheumatoid arthritis.
However, in an extraordinary development announced on Tuesday, the Waterloo Road star shared with his audience that he is now free from pain for the first time due to a remarkable biological injection.

With a cheerful demeanor, Adam titled a self-portrait: “The past several weeks… my life has undergone a remarkable transformation!
For the past three years, I’ve been dealing with psoriatic arthritis, a challenging journey marked by persistent pain and struggles. However, today, I share an incredible achievement that I once believed was impossible – I am now completely free from pain!
‘Not a bit better, not improving but ZERO pain! None. For the first time in YEARS.
About three weeks back, I received my initial biological injection, an event that transformed my life almost immediately. Generally, it takes others a few weeks to see results, but for me, the transformation happened instantly. Frankly, I’m still reeling from the surprise.
To be clear, I understand that this isn’t a cure, but I’m doing everything I can to nourish my body with healthy food, exercise, and rest. However, it has provided me with something I haven’t felt in a while!
It’s now the right moment for reconstruction – mentally, physically, and emotionally. The upcoming phase is dedicated to putting my wellness first, transforming into the most content and vibrant version of myself… and ultimately rediscovering joy in living once more.
‘Let’s goo!!!’
Vaccines, which are a kind of treatment, employ proteins to focus on particular areas of the immune system affected by inflammation.

Approximately a month prior to his discovery of the injection, Adam expressed a heartfelt appeal for relief from his pain, as his discomfort had grown nearly intolerable.
In the caption under a picture of him reclining on a massage table, the 36-year-old expressed: “This illness significantly impacts your mind, particularly when you’re attempting to lose some pounds and establish an exercise regimen!
‘Constant battle constant set backs! Just take my pain away please!! I’ve suffered enough now!
‘Am really trying to hold myself together but it’s not easy!
Some days are tough, it seems like everyone’s at odds… On days when we can’t work out, it’s important to prioritize personal well-being – self-care and restoration.”
This version keeps the original idea but uses simpler language and a more direct structure. The focus is still on the importance of taking care of oneself during challenging times.
Months prior, I found myself grappling with the reality of my condition, as I struggled to walk, due to the crippling effects of the illness, a dedicated follower of the soap opera might say.
‘The pain is pretty unbearable at the moment,’ he posted in October.
It feels like every fiber of my being is tightening up! The discomfort I felt earlier has intensified significantly… I can’t help but wonder, what could have caused this escalation?
Speaking about his therapy, he stated, “I’d much rather still be on the methotrexate now, as I’d gladly endure that pain daily!
Today marks the beginning of my new treatment that will take about 12 weeks to show results, but there’s uncertainty if it will help alleviate my pain during this time. Previously, I received steroid injections, but their effect only lasted for a week. So, I’m unsure what options I have for managing the pain until then.
This morning, I found it incredibly challenging to dress myself independently, let alone drive to work. To be honest, I’m struggling to walk properly and my wrists and fingers feel as if they’ve been fractured – that’s not an overstatement!
I probably wouldn’t have woken up this morning without the need for work. The day became more bearable as it progressed, thanks to a generous dose of painkillers!
Wow, the past few days have been quite frightening. I even shed a tear today; it’s amazing how overwhelming things can become!
I’m not sharing this for a pity party or sympathy, but rather to raise awareness about this disease and the experiences of many others, both positive and negative. I consider myself fortunate to have a strong support system, yet not everyone does, so if you’re going through the same thing and feeling alone, know that you are seen, you are felt!

Things will improve, so don’t lose hope! If you know someone who might be struggling, reach out to them and offer a helping hand. Give them a call or drop them a message to show your support.
In 2002, Adam, who is both Scott Love Island’s brother and a co-star with Ryan in soap operas, got his big break as Donte Charles on BBC One’s Waterloo Road. He continued to act on this series for another three years.
Later on, he made an appearance in the series Emmerdale, playing the character Adam Barton. From 2009 up until 2018, this role kept him busy on the show, and he quickly gained popularity among fans, becoming a beloved figure.
2016 saw him as a contestant on “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” He ended up in the third position, trailing behind Joel Dommett and popular TV personality Scarlett Moffatt from “Gogglebox”.
