Adam Sandler made the rare move of ridiculing his fellow actors while slamming the Oscars.
At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Thursday, he jokingly suggested that the actors nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar probably got there by being more adept at flattering people than he is.
The jab was meant to be a joke.
The actors nominated for Best Supporting Actor are Benicio del Toro (for One Battle After Another), Jacob Elordi (for Frankenstein), Delroy Lindo (for Sinners), Sean Penn (also for One Battle After Another), and Stellan Skarsgard (for Sentimental Value).
Adam Sandler, 59, was disappointed he didn’t receive an Oscar nomination for his performance in the drama ‘Jay Kelly,’ which also featured George Clooney and Laura Dern.

Okay, seriously, congrats to everyone who got nominated for an Oscar this year! You all deserve it, I really mean that – you’re way better actors than I am. But honestly? I also think you’re really good at playing the game and schmoozing with the Academy. It’s… impressive, let’s say that. I’m just being real!
Many believed Adam Sandler could be nominated for Best Supporting Actor due to his serious performance in the movie Jay Kelly.
Although his performance received attention and award nominations from groups like the Critics Choice and Golden Globes, he wasn’t nominated for an Oscar.
Before that he delivered another joke.
During his acceptance of the Maltin Modern Master Award, Adam Sandler jokingly wondered about a prediction made by a fortune teller in 1982. The fortune teller had told him he’d win an Oscar for a film called ‘Jay Kelly,’ and Sandler quipped, ‘Is it possible you forgot part of the title and meant ‘Jay Kelly 2′?’
And then he delivered a warning to other actors/
Speaking to his fellow actors, Sandler playfully warned them that he plans to really impress them next year. He joked that his character in Grown Ups 3 will showcase a much more intense and mysterious side of the Sandman than audiences have seen before.
‘But honestly, thank you for this award, it means the world.’
While onstage conversation at the event, Sandler again addressed not being Oscar nominated.
You know, I wasn’t nominated for an Oscar this year, and honestly, that’s perfectly okay with me. It’s not something I dwell on – I really focus on the work itself and moving forward. It’s about the journey, not just the awards, if you ask me.
I found out that morning I hadn’t been selected. Honestly, everyone who did get the nomination was really talented, so it made perfect sense. It didn’t bother me too much.
I’m incredibly proud of that film and had a wonderful time working with Noah Baumbach, George Clooney, Laura, and the entire cast and crew. Those are experiences you truly never forget – it was an amazing project.
