Adam Rickitt reveals he lost all of his TV fortune after his alcoholic father ‘stole’ his money – as the former Corrie star prepares for a music comeback

Adam Rickitt shared that he lost all the money he earned from his television career because his father, who struggled with alcohol, took it from him.

Forty-seven-year-old actor and former Coronation Street star revealed details about a 15-year-long disagreement he had with his father, who has since passed away, during an appearance on Vanessa Feltz’s show on Friday.

Although Adam began his career as a child model, he jokingly auditioned for the part of Nick Tilsley on Coronation Street in 1997.

Even though Adam landed the role, he only stayed on Coronation Street for two years before deciding to focus on his music.

He recently claimed his father, who faced many difficulties in life, took a significant portion of his income.

Adam mentioned on the show that the net worth figure you find online if you search for ‘Adam Rickitt net worth’ is inaccurate. He explained that his father actually took his money, and it happened on three separate occasions.

Even though I was earning good money from both ‘Corrie’ and my pop career at 18, it all seemed to just end up with him, and he’d consistently lose it all. It was incredibly frustrating to work so hard and see the money disappear like that.

He went on to explain that his father had been a highly successful banker, earning millions of pounds annually.

However, he struggled with a serious drinking problem. I continued to give him money, which he would often squander, but he’d also manage to earn some of his own.

Honestly, it was incredibly frustrating. Whenever I lent this friend money, he’d prioritize treating his buddies over taking care of his own family or, you know, actually repaying me. It created a huge rift, and we didn’t speak for fifteen years as a result. It was a tough lesson in boundaries, but ultimately, I had to prioritize my own well-being.

Okay, so Adam finally told me what happened with his dad. It was awful! Apparently, his dad was left with absolutely nothing – totally broke and lost his house because of all this insane debt. It just breaks my heart to think about it, but Adam finally reconnected with him, which is a little bit of good news, at least.

Following his announcement last month that he’s returning to music, Adam is now back in the studio working on new material after securing a new record contract.

Adam had a short-lived music career when he released his debut single I Breathe Again in 1999.

The song peaked at number five, and its music video became famous for showing Adam undressing while doctors examined him inside a glass enclosure.

He released one solo album, Good Times, which reached number 41 in the UK.

Adam and his wife, Katy Fawcett, announced in a recent Instagram video that he’s returned to the studio to create new music.

While driving to the studio, former Good Morning Britain host Katy announced, ‘Today is a really exciting day – we’re finally ready to share some big news!’

Many of you have probably seen Adam performing at various events since last year’s Pride celebration. So, what does Adam have planned for us today?

Looking bashful, Adam replied: ‘We’re going to record a new song.’

Katy shared that they’re starting to record new music. She mentioned he’s too humble to promote it himself, and he’s already been in the studio working on updated versions of his previous songs.

Adam mentioned they recently worked on a version of ‘Breathe Again’ that sounded good, and they now have a promising new song idea.

‘Who’s the song about?’ Katy asked, to which he said: ‘You baby.’

‘Can I be your biggest groupie?’ Katy asked.

‘Yes. I’ve got to have one,’ Adam said.

The video then showed Adam recording music in the studio while Katy danced to the beat.

Later in the video, Adam explained that while achieving his childhood dream, he couldn’t fully enjoy the moment. He felt preoccupied with his own thoughts and it always seemed like a missed chance to truly have the time of his life.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized things won’t magically improve on their own. But now I’m able to take action and truly appreciate the experience, especially because I get to share it with you, and that’s what makes it all worthwhile.

Adam shared that something unexpected happened: heavy breathing seems to be making a comeback, combined with some singing and laughter.

We’re excited to announce that new music is on the way! We’re collaborating on this project, and we’d love for you to join us on this exciting adventure!

While many remember Adam for his acting, he and Katy now own and operate a craft beer and gin bar named Dexter and Jones in their hometown of Knutsford, choosing a quieter life away from the public eye.

Although Adam began his career as a child model, he jokingly applied for the part of Nick Tilsey on Coronation Street in 1997 and surprisingly auditioned for it.

Even though Adam landed the role, he only stayed on Coronation Street for two years before deciding to focus on his music career.

During his soap break, Adam released his album Good Times as part of a six-album record deal.

After his album only reached number 41, Adam was promptly dropped from his label.

The star briefly considered a career in politics, being selected as a potential Conservative Member of Parliament in 2005. However, he confessed his motivation was simply to encourage greater youth participation in politics.

Unable to compile a list of twenty potential candidates for the Folkestone and Hythe constituency after Michael Howard’s departure, he announced his retirement from politics.

Adam briefly reappeared in Coronation Street in 2002, and then again from 2003 to 2004. During the latter period, his character shared the soap’s first gay kiss with Todd Grimshaw, played by Bruno Langley.

Adam got back into acting in 2007, appearing on the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street for three years until 2010.

He returned to music in 2014 by joining the supergroup 5th Story. The group appeared on the second season of the reality show The Big Reunion, and also included singers Kenzie (from Blazin’ Squad), Dane Bowers (from Another Level), Kavana, and Gareth Gates.

Adam returned to television dramas in 2017, playing Kyle Kelly on Hollyoaks. He left the show after three years when his character died by suicide, and in 2023, he made a short appearance on the BBC series Doctors.

Since becoming famous, Adam has been open about his mental health, sharing that his difficulties started when he was 13.

He’d mentioned before on Loose Women that he did struggle with an eating disorder as a teenager, something that’s already been discussed publicly.

However, I don’t believe I’ve ever fully explained that my problems actually started before and continued long after that particular situation.

I struggled with anxiety and depression for nearly seventeen years, from age thirteen to thirty, and during that time, I often had suicidal thoughts.

Like many people, my moods have always fluctuated, but looking back, a significant part of my adulthood was marked by suicidal thoughts and feelings.

In 2023, Adam shared that he lost ‘tens of thousands of pounds’ to a sophisticated bank scam.

Adam explained he lost money in a sophisticated scam where he was tricked into making a payment, and he felt foolish and ashamed as a result.

In the video, a visibly upset Adam explained that he considered himself fairly knowledgeable about security, but he was completely tricked by someone pretending to be from Barclay’s bank fraud department. He said they had access to all of his personal information, stating, ‘They knew EVERYTHING about me’.

The actor confessed he struggled to face his wife, Katy, after being tricked, and while he knew some might make fun of him, he felt it was important to share his experience to help others avoid a similar situation.
