Adam Ramsay-Peaty debuts his new name on his swimming cap at the Commonwealth Games as his wife Holly brands it ‘so special’

Swimmer Adam Peaty, now known as Adam Ramsay-Peaty, showcased his new name on his cap at the Commonwealth Games, hoping it will bring him good fortune in Glasgow.

For the first time in a major competition, three-time Olympic gold medalist James Guy is competing under his complete name. This change comes after he married Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, last December.

His pregnant wife, Holly, seems to love the new look, sharing a photo of Adam wearing the swimming cap on her Instagram with the caption, ‘So Special.’

Let me tell you, 2025 was a whirlwind! I was so thrilled to marry my wonderful Holly on December 27th at the stunning Bath Abbey. And then, just a few months later in June, we shared the amazing news that we’re expecting! It’s been a truly joyful time.

Unfortunately, his parents didn’t come to the wedding, and it’s believed they won’t be at the Commonwealth Games either. They’re currently not on speaking terms with him, and he remains distant from them.

Adam earned his first Commonwealth title twelve years ago in Glasgow, and now aims to win another one this weekend. This competition will also serve as an important step in his preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The British athlete has won four gold and three silver medals in his three previous Commonwealth Games competitions as a professional.

At the Glasgow competition, Adam has the chance to make history as the first Team England swimmer to win four golds in a row – he’s competing in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events.

This follows an interview with BBC Breakfast on Tuesday, where the athlete shared what it’s like being married to Holly and expecting a baby.

The Olympic champion, speaking about the Commonwealth Games, shared that having his second child has helped him mature and take on more responsibility.

He described his wedding as one of the happiest days of his life, and said seeing Holly walk down the aisle was a moment he’d never forget.

I have such vivid memories of the music and the atmosphere at the church – it was truly amazing. And I feel incredibly lucky to have Gordon Ramsay as my father-in-law; he’s a real blessing.

I’m thrilled to be expecting another baby girl! Being a father has been an amazing experience, and it’s such a gift to have someone new in the world who loves and appreciates you.

He continued: ‘My love isn’t going to be judged by a medal.

Now that Holly is pregnant, I’m just hoping for her happiness and for both her and the baby to be healthy. It also motivates me to become more mature and responsible.

Adam has a five-year-old son named George-Anderson with his ex-partner, artist Eirianedd Munro.

A video shown on BBC Breakfast highlighted swimmer Holly, Gordon, and his son George, but it didn’t acknowledge the significant contributions of Gordon’s parents, who devoted their lives to supporting his swimming.

Adam is heading back to the Commonwealth Games as one of the team’s most experienced athletes, but he’s determined to keep pushing his limits and accomplish even more.

I’ve followed Adam’s career for years, and while he’s achieved incredible things – becoming a world record holder is amazing – it hasn’t been easy. He’s actually shared that the pressure of the sport really took a toll on him at one point and he went through a really tough time. It’s inspiring to see him still going strong, knowing what he’s overcome.

He revealed that in March 2023, during a swim warm-up, something unexpected happened. While doing breaststroke, his goggles filled with tears during the final length, and in that moment, he felt a sudden loss of passion for everything he cared about.

I’m completely dedicated to sports – it’s a huge part of my life and has always been incredibly beneficial. But when that same passion becomes a source of pain and you start to resent it, the emotional toll is devastating, and the process of recovery is incredibly difficult.

I’ve really focused on creating balance in my life lately, and honestly, it’s something I’m thinking about long-term. I’m wondering how I can maintain this – not just for the next year, but for two, four, even six years down the road. It’s become clear to me that finding that balance is going to be absolutely essential for my well-being.

Adam’s coach, Lisa Bates, was asked to sum Adam up in three words and she said: ‘Always full on.’

She explained that his success comes down to his mental approach. He can focus intensely, like a predator, and accurately assess the race to understand what he needs to do. While his body carries him through, it’s his strong mindset that truly makes him different and allows him to excel.

Adam admitted he doesn’t have many years left in his sport. He explained that competing at this level for as long as he has takes a toll, and that he’s definitely felt the physical and emotional consequences.
