Adam Peaty revealed his family felt let down and wished he’d prioritized spending time with them, admitting he became different after achieving Olympic glory.

The 30-year-old gold medallist became the first British man in 24 years to win the 100m breaststroke at the Olympics in 2016. He successfully defended his title five years later at the Tokyo Olympics.

Adam, born to Caroline and Mark in Staffordshire, achieved Olympic success that launched him into a life of fame and fortune.

Adam became engaged to Holly Ramsay, Gordon Ramsay’s 25-year-old daughter, in September 2024. However, recent reports of a family dispute have surfaced, with claims that Adam has grown distant from his own family since becoming engaged and being drawn into the Ramsay family’s world.

A recent excerpt from Adam’s 2021 autobiography, The Gladiator Mindset, reveals his honest reflections on his personal weaknesses and how his intense dedication to swimming affected his relationships.

He explained that some of his closest friends and family are hurt by his success, believing he’s changed and doesn’t care about them despite his attempts to reassure them. This makes him feel ashamed and like he should be making more effort to connect with them.

Adam went on to share that he can sometimes lack ’empathy’ and branded himself a ‘selfish athlete’.

Adam mentions elsewhere in the book that he feels like he has two distinct sides to his personality, and admits that one of them is difficult to be around.

This statement follows Adam speaking out about the difficult family conflict that has been impacting his wedding plans with his partner, Holly Ramsay.

The Olympic swimmer used Instagram on Wednesday to share that there’s ‘more to the story’ and expressed confidence that he, Holly, and his sister Bethany will overcome their current ‘difficulties’.
