Adam Hyde Top of Coldest 100 Chart with Adam Hyde & Karl Stefanovic Epic Fail

For individuals seeking a humorous twist alongside their music lists, there’s an option other than Triple J’s Hottest 100 available.

On a chilly Saturday evening, I found myself glued to my screen as the electrifying “The Coldest 100,” hosted by the charismatic Andrew Sholl on X, unfolded before me. This time around, it was Australia’s most awkward and unforgettable tunes that took center stage. As each cringe-worthy track played, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of disbelief, amusement, and a strange sense of fascination. It’s an obsession, really—I can’t get enough!

First place on the list is none other than Abbie Chatfield’s partner, better known as Keli Holiday, when using his stage name.

Last year, Adam earned the distinction of having Australia’s least favored song with “Islands in the Stream,” a duet he recorded with Karl Stefanovic.

On today’s program, the host lends his voice for a rendition of the timeless duet by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

In the second spot, we find English musician Jarvis Cocker performing Two Little Boys, an unusual rendition that echoed the style of the discredited children’s entertainer, Rolf Harris.

On a 2002 episode of the British TV show “Stars In Their Eyes,” the lead singer of Pulp took center stage to deliver his stand-up comedy act.

In third place during the audition round of the Spanish X Factor was Nieves Muñoz, who sang an unusual rendition of Sia’s “Chandelier.

Since it first appeared online in 2016, the popular video has been shared extensively. This year, it made its way onto the Coldest 100 list.

4th on the list was a work conference rap performance, featuring Canva CEO Melanie Perkins and several employees, known as the “Canva Rap.

It was released in 2024 and caused widespread amusement at it’s cringe lyrics and awkward dancing. 

At number five was a long forgotten promotional video for a local NSW shopping centre. 

Back in 1986, a production titled “I Am Wollongong” premiered at the Gateway On the Mall Shopping Centre, and it continues to captivate audiences even now.

Additional recognitions went to “Time, Time, Kangaroo Down Under” by Shirley Bassey from 1976, as well as “Hello, Kerri-Anne” by Kerri-Anne Kennerley in 1998.

In 2013, Julian Assange’s “You’re the Voice” ranked at number 17 on the chart, while Simon Townsend’s “Simon Says,” released in 1984, reached position 100.

Following her victory at the Triple J Hottest 100, Chappell Roan was declared the champion on the January 25 broadcast, which took place on a Saturday.

The well-known American singer dominated the music scene with her hit song “Good Luck Babe,” reaching the top spot on a highly respected chart.

In the second place, we find the Australian guitar-pop duo Royel Otis, offering a rendition of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s hit song “Murder On The Dancefloor.

Billie Eilish, an American pop sensation, landed in third place with her popular song “Birds of a Feather,” and Lola Young, a well-known UK artist, secured the fourth spot on the charts with her widely recognized tune “Messy.

An American artist placed fifth overall, and Gracie Abrams earned the position with her hit song “That’s So True.

In the top ten listings, Eilish’s hit song in partnership with British sensation Charli XCX appeared at position six. At number seven, Australian DJ Dom Dolla featuring girl$ made an appearance.

8th place belonged to American rap artist Kendrick Lamar for his song “Not Like Us,” and 9th place went to Australian pop sensation G Flip, recognized for her rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer.

As a lifestyle aficionado, I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the harmonious fusion of talents between English producer Fred Again and rising star Baby Keem in their collaborative piece, “leavemealone.” This remarkable track has found its way onto my top ten list, making it an essential addition to any music enthusiast’s playlist.

Despite some listeners expressing dissatisfaction, numerous individuals voiced their opinions about the countdown on X.

There certainly seems to be a compelling argument for discontinuing funding for The ABC, given the present situation with Triple J and the #hottest100.

‘Never heard the song. Never heard of the artist. It’s officially dead #hottest100’ said another.

2. “If you’re tuned into Triple J, you might as well cut off your ears.” (written by another person)

I’m not saying I’m old, but rather, I’m just stating my opinion that Triple J used to be a station for alternative and intriguing music. Nowadays, it seems like they play songs that I wouldn’t necessarily enjoy or find appealing.

‘Do you recall when Triple J offered an alternative to mainstream radio, playing a mix of unique music? I can’t help but think what happened to that station, as the content they’re broadcasting now seems so different and unpleasant, according to another listener.’

It seems that only 29 out of the 100 songs on Triple J meet their 40% quota for Australian artists this year, which is causing some to remark that it’s one of the lowest numbers in recent years and describe it as grim.

The point I’m trying to make is that I don’t believe Taylor and Gracie belong in the Top 100 list. However, if we consider their level of fame, other artists like Billie, Dua, Olivia, Charli, and many others might not deserve a spot on it either.

I think Taylor and Gracie don’t fit the criteria for the Top 100 list, and neither do some other well-known singers like Billie, Dua, Olivia, Charli, etc.

‘Triple J has completely lost the plot like there are barely any Aussie artists’ they added. 

Others seemed content with the outcome, as one individual expressed: “At least an American won, and that’s my favorite among the lesbians.” (This version maintains the original sentiment but uses more natural and inclusive language.)

Another wrote: ‘That was all a bit of a yawn but f**k yes that number one is the right choice!’

‘Hottest 100 redeemed by Good Luck Babe CHAPPELL U BLOODY LEGEND’ yet one more said. 

2021 saw a significant number of international artists taking center stage on our charts, with Charli XCX and Billie Eilish holding the top positions.

This year’s countdown was largely influenced by foreign acts, as Charli XCX and Eilish reigned supreme on our music charts.

The stars broke the record for the most songs in a Hottest 100 countdown with eight each. 

Abrams was a hot new arrival, with a massive five tracks in the list. 

Among the top 100 songs, it was found that only 29 were produced by Australian artists. Dom Dolla managed to achieve a high position on the charts, while Amyl and the Sniffers made several appearances as well.

In the Australian punk scene, the Melbourne group made a significant impact as their song “U Should Not Be Doing That” reached number 34, while their other track, “Jerkin'”, climbed up to position 32 on the charts.

Also with multiple tracks on the countdown were Australian electronic music trio RÜFÜS DU SOL.
