Kylo Ren is dead and so is Adam Driver’s idea for a Ben Solo “Star Wars” movie.
The actor, who was nominated for an Oscar, revealed he worked for two years on a film focusing on the son of Princess Leia and Han Solo, taking place after the final movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Unfortunately, Disney decided not to move forward with the project.
Adam Driver has expressed his continued interest in returning to the ‘Star Wars’ universe. Speaking to the Associated Press, Driver, who played Kylo Ren in the sequel trilogy, revealed he’d been discussing a potential return with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy since 2021. He stated he’d be eager to reprise the role if the project had a compelling director and a strong story, adding that he enjoyed playing the character.

Movies
The new trailer for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ shows Grogu, the Force-sensitive child, enjoying food, spending time with Anzellans, and encountering a new character played by Sigourney Weaver in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.
Adam Driver, known for playing the character of Kylo Ren, explained that he spoke with director Steven Soderbergh about exploring the character further, as he felt Kylo Ren’s story wasn’t fully resolved. Born Ben Solo, Kylo Ren is the grandson of Anakin Skywalker and was originally training to be a Jedi with his Uncle Luke before turning to the dark side. He first appears in “The Force Awakens” as a powerful leader for the First Order, mirroring Darth Vader, but ultimately finds redemption by sacrificing himself in “The Rise of Skywalker.”
When Adam Driver signed on for the sequel trilogy, he and the filmmakers had planned a different storyline for his character. He describes the original idea as ‘really cool’ and says he’s now able to discuss it because those plans have changed.
Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt developed a story and presented it to Kennedy, Carrie Beck from Lucasfilm, and Dave Filoni. They then hired Scott Z. Burns to write a screenplay, which Driver called one of the most impressive he’d ever worked on.
The actor from “Megalopolis” said Lucasfilm was enthusiastic about the movie idea, originally called “The Hunt for Ben Solo.” It was planned to have the same focus on characters and practical effects as the first “Star Wars” films.

Movies
Ever since “The Empire Strikes Back,” the Star Wars films have shifted between portraying heroes as saviors and showing a more realistic take on how rebellions actually unfold.
However, Disney’s leaders weren’t thrilled with the idea, mainly because of what happened to the character in the later movies.
According to Driver, when he pitched the idea, Bob Iger and Alan Bergman rejected it. They couldn’t believe the character Ben Solo could still be alive, and the discussion ended there.
Steven Soderbergh said he had a lot of fun envisioning the film, but he’s disappointed fans won’t be able to watch it. Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t responded to requests for comment, according to the Associated Press.
Although a planned Ben Solo movie starring Driver likely won’t happen, fans will soon be able to enjoy new “Star Wars” adventures on the big screen. First, “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu,” continuing the story from the popular Disney+ series, will arrive in theaters on May 22. Then, in 2027 on May 28, Shawn Levy will release “Star Wars: Starfighter,” featuring Ryan Gosling.
As a huge film fan, I’m really excited about what’s coming from a galaxy far, far away! I’ve heard Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing a new film with Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey, which is fantastic news. Plus, James Mangold is working on a movie diving into the history of the Force – that sounds incredible! And to top it all off, Simon Kinberg, known for his work on the “X-Men” films, is planning a whole new trilogy. It’s a really exciting time to be a Star Wars enthusiast!
