Adam Brody’s Noah: From Perfect Boyfriend to Season 2 Jerk in Nobody Wants This

Adam Brody was named “Best TV Boyfriend” after the first season of Nobody Wants This, but he’s no longer holding that title following the show’s second season. The Netflix romantic comedy was a big success last year, largely due to the strong connection between Adam Brody and Kristen Bell. Because of its popularity, Netflix renewed the show for another season, with Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan continuing as co-showrunners.

Season two of Nobody Wants This aimed to build on its charming romance and relatable characters. However, the show ended up making almost everyone—except for Esther, who experiences a satisfying journey of growth—less appealing than they were initially. While the characters became more flawed and complicated, which is common for a second season, it unfortunately came at the cost of their likability.

The show Nobody Wants This significantly changes how its returning characters behave, and this is especially apparent with Adam Brody’s character, Noah. He was previously considered a fan favorite and even dubbed the “Best TV Boyfriend,” but he loses that appeal in season 2. This shift in character makes it difficult to enjoy the second season as much as the first.

Adam Brody’s Noah Is Kind Of A Jerk In Nobody Wants This Season 2

In the first season of Nobody Wants This, Noah seems like the ideal boyfriend – he’s considerate, kind, patient, and always supportive, with the small exception of briefly worrying about how others might react to Joanne at camp. But in season two, his personality shifts, and he starts to act a bit selfish and unpleasant.

By the end of season one of Nobody Wants This, Noah and Joanne had reached an understanding: Joanne wasn’t going to convert to his religion. Noah acknowledged he couldn’t have both a religious conversion and a relationship with Joanne, and he chose Joanne. But at the start of season two, he’s secretly telling everyone that Joanne is still planning to convert, which isn’t true.

Even after she asks him to leave her alone, he doesn’t respect her boundaries. Instead of stopping, he simply becomes more indirect and subtly continues to pressure her, a pattern that continues throughout the entire season.

He appears to blame her for the choices he made after their relationship ended, but she never asked him to choose between her and his position as Head Rabbi. His difficulties aren’t her fault. If accepting converts was a firm requirement for him, he should have communicated that directly instead of avoiding a tough conversation.

Furthermore, Noah doesn’t put any effort into making Valentine’s Day special for Joanne, instead just repeating old routines and giving the same gifts he gave to his previous partners. Considering his bitterness, dishonesty, and general lack of consideration, it becomes difficult to feel sympathetic towards Noah as the season progresses.

Honestly, as a fan of the show, I was pretty shocked by Noah’s behavior in season 2 of Nobody Wants This. It really changed how I saw him – he went from being everyone’s dream boyfriend to someone a lot more flawed. There’s a moment where one of his exes actually calls into the podcast, and Joanne basically forces him to confront how he treated her and reflect on the past. It was uncomfortable, but a necessary turning point for his character, I think.

Noah was so focused on being the ideal partner that he ended up acting in unhealthy ways. He’d shower people with gifts and talk about the future, leading them to believe they were in a good, lasting relationship, only to unexpectedly end things and leave them hurt and confused.

Noah’s “Good Boyfriend” Behavior Wasn’t Coming From An Honest Place

Learning about Noah’s past and how he acted in relationships completely changes how we see the first season of Nobody Wants This. It’s now difficult to tell whether he was acting out of a desire to appear like a good partner, or if his actions were truly motivated by genuine affection. Because of this, we can’t really know how sincere he was with Joanne.

It seems like he genuinely cares for her, but knowing what we do about his past makes his current actions feel less genuine. If season 3 of “Nobody Wants This” comes out, it will be tough for Adam Brody and Noah to be seen as the best TV boyfriend again.
