Actor Watches Back Old Audition Tape with Co-Star

Last week, he entered the spotlight for the first time, appearing in the widely praised Netflix series titled Adolescence.

Now, enthusiasts of the series can catch a glimpse into the audition video that helped 15-year-old Owen Cooper secure his role as Jamie Miller.

During an interview for the show that chronicles a high school student accused of murder, allegedly influenced by misogynistic online communities, Owen revisited his initial screening tape.

Together with Erin Doherty, who starred alongside him in episode three, fans watched as Owen reenacted his audition by performing the scene at the police station, where his character was being processed after being arrested.

But the first thing Erin noticed as the clip of young Owen came on screen was his long wavy hair.

She started to question, “What are your thoughts on seeing yourself like that?” But then got sidetracked by his hair and exclaimed, “Wow, check out those locks!

Owen covers his face with his hands, commenting, ‘Check out me up here,’ as he watches an old video of himself.

Erin wonders, “What makes your hair behave that way?” To which Owen responds, “That’s just how it naturally… that’s the way my hair typically looks.

Erin laughs before she replies: ‘You’re way cooler now.’

In response to Owen’s audition, Erin expressed her frustration by saying, “That was just too much for me to handle! I felt like saying, ‘No, he didn’t pull it off!’

Owen again buries his face in his palm as he says: ‘Aw no, I didn’t even know that got filmed.’

Erin reassures, ‘Don’t fret over your hair,'” followed by Owen’s response, “I’m not concerned about it.

In a casual, understandable manner, Erin, the actress playing the psychiatrist character, responded: “Well, that’s good. However, I think they might have filmed it differently.

In response, Owen chuckles and counters, “I’m afraid not,” contradicting Erin who urges, “But they really could have!” Again, the young actor voices his objections.

After watching the clip, Owen leans back in his seat as he says: ‘I hated that. I hated that.’

‘Okay, well you’re not supposed to like looking at yourself,’ Erin adds. ‘But that was great!’

‘That was the one that got me the part I think,’ Owen notes, to which Erin asks: ‘Really?’

Owen adds: ‘Apparently yeah.’ ‘That’s… that’s literally, that’s Jamie,’ Erin says.

Actress Erin expressed her immense pride over the Netflix drama, stating that it has ignited essential discussions about the hidden dangers on the internet.

Over the past week, the recently launched series, debuted on March 13, has sparked conversations among viewers due to its riveting plotline and the unique aspect that every episode was filmed in a single take.

Speaking on the How To Fail podcast this week with Elizabeth Day, Erin said: ‘I’m very proud.

I experienced watching it completely through for the first time in one go the other day, and I’ve never felt such an urgent need for a task like this before.

I exclaimed, “Wow, this is something we must share!” It’s crucial that we engage in discussions like this.

‘So that is what I am most proud of — that I get to be a little slice of something so vital.’

Additionally, she shared that she leaned on assistance from her personal therapist to accurately portray the character of psychologist Briony Ariston, who was conducting Jamie’s pre-trial evaluation during his incarceration.

She said: ‘I read the script and had to speak to a therapist, so I spoke to my old therapist.

I aimed to portray an individual demonstrating their expertise while struggling with it, adding depth instead of falling into the stereotype of a psychologist solely posing queries in a room.

As much as I’d love to claim this masterpiece entirely, it’s the brilliant work of Owen Cooper that shines through. If given the chance, I’d be honored to collaborate with him for the remainder of my professional journey. His talent is truly unparalleled.

As a devoted follower, I’ve seldom collaborated with someone of their age; instead, it seemed like working alongside an experienced veteran in the field.
