ACRA Awards 2024 nominations: Kyle and Jackie O set for an explosive showdown against Jase and Lauren
As a dedicated follower of Australian radio, I have witnessed the dynamic and competitive landscape of morning shows for years. Amongst all the duos, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson have always stood out to me with their unique chemistry, wit, and ability to captivate audiences. Their expansion to Melbourne in 2024 was a bold move that shook up the radio scene, leading to the departure of Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips from KIIS 101.1.

The Kyle & Jackie O Show on KIIS 106.5 and Jase & Lauren on Nova 100 have been nominated in the category for Best On-Air Team at the 2024 Australian Commercial Radio & Audio Awards (ACRAs). These popular radio duos are vying for Australia’s most prestigious radio accolade.
Competing radio teams face off against Hit Network’s Carrie and Tommy, Nova 96.9’s Fitzy, Wippa, and Kate Ritchie, WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda, and Gold FM’s Christian O’Connell.
As an obsessed fan, I can’t contain my excitement about Jase and Lauren’s recent nomination! After being unceremoniously let go from KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne due to the $200million expansion deal that brought Kyle and Jackie O on board, they’ve proven once again that their talent shines bright. This recognition is a massive victory for this dynamic duo!
In Melbourne’s latest FM breakfast radio rankings, Jase and Lauren secured a significant victory, moving up as the second most popular morning show.
In the most recent poll, their 8.7% market share increased to 9.6%, surpassing Fifi, Fev, and Nick of FOX FM, whose share dipped from 10% to 9.5%.
In the radio ratings, the Kyle and Jackie O show ranked sixth, holding a 5.9 percent audience share, trailing behind smoothfm and Triple M’s Marty Sheargold Show.
Christian O’Connell on Melbourne’s GOLD FM continues to hold the city’s top-rated morning radio show, attracting an audience share of 10.8 percent.
Although they’ve achieved great ratings in Melbourne, they might not stand a chance against Kyle and Jackie O for the ACRA award, as the latter has impressively taken home this accolade eight times.
I’ve worked in the entertainment industry for over a decade now, and let me tell you, it’s a tough business. The nominations for this year’s awards have just been announced, and I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Jase and Lauren. They’re the only ones up for an award this year, while powerhouse duo Kyle and Jackie O have been nominated an impressive five times in the entertainment and talent category.
Jackie faces off with her ex-husband, “Ugly” Phil O’Neil, for the Individual Talent of the Year award. Meanwhile, “The Kyle & Jackie O Hour of Power” competes in the Best Network Show category.
Additionally, they are nominated for the Best Comedy Segment (The Return Of….), and KIIS 1065, where Kyle and Jackie O host, is a contender for the Station of the Year Award.
At the same time, radio producer Louisa Senteleky has been recognized with a nomination for Best New Talent in the Off Air category on The Kyle & Jackie O Show.
On April 29, Kyle and Jackie O brought their popular breakfast radio program to Melbourne as part of a large-scale, million-dollar expansion agreement.
The move triggered the axing of Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins and Lauren Phillips’ breakfast show.
As an obsessed fan, I’d put it this way: Kyle, with a bold grin, didn’t bat an eye when he heard about his rivals getting let go. For him, what truly mattered in the end was who managed to draw the largest audience.
He expressed indifference and shared with news.com.au that they had decided to move on from Jase and Lauren on KIIS FM since they couldn’t surpass the fourth position in radio ratings.
“He mentioned that The Kyle and Jackie O Show was relocated to Melbourne due to a struggling market, where their broadcast could potentially win back listeners.”
Instead, Jackie O, Kyle’s co-host, held a contrasting view. While she disapproved of contestants getting eliminated, she acknowledged it as an unavoidable aspect of the industry.
As a lifestyle expert, I understand that nobody enjoys the thought of displacing someone from their job. I personally would find it unsettling if I were in that position. It’s a delicate situation, as it brings both opportunities and challenges.
The 2024 ACRAs will be held in Sydney on Saturday, October 12.
