Acne Studios, a renowned Swedish fashion label, has unveiled its stunning new three-story flagship store in the stylish Aoyama district of Tokyo. This expansive retail space, a joint effort between Acne Studios’ creative director Jonny Johansson and Stockholm-based architecture studio Halleroed, is not just a shop – it’s an interactive experience that draws heavily from Tokyo’s dense, multi-layered cityscape and Acne Studios’ enduring love for Japan.
The recently relocated Aoyama store, now positioned right across from the well-known Prada Aoyama flagship, offers shoppers an adventure of tactile and visual juxtapositions. As visitors navigate through a sequence of meticulously crafted areas, they encounter Acne Studios’ distinctive fusion of brutalist designs and sophisticated minimalism. The interior showcases the brand’s signature pink granite, used for walls, floors, and select pieces of furniture, providing an eye-catching backdrop.
The main store’s layout emphasizes a carefully crafted, artistic ambiance. Max Lamb created the seating for this flagship, incorporating woven fabrics with a high-gloss pink patent leather, which creates a balance between softness and radiance. Benoit Lalloz designed custom lighting that provides the store with a rhythmic glow and overall atmosphere, while British artist Daniel Silver adds artistic mannequins through his sculptures.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Jonny Johansson, the mastermind behind this gaming realm, teamed up with the talented Japanese ceramicist, Takuro Kuwata. His vibrant ceramic artifacts now grace the walls of our gaming den, and he’s even designed a special, limited-time collection inspired by Acne Studios! This exclusive capsule includes reimagined denim pieces that can only be found at our Aoyama flagship store to celebrate its grand opening. This collaboration not only reflects Acne Studios’ dedication to creative dialogue but also adds another layer of artistic depth to our gaming experience.
The large three-level building will contain all the clothing, accessories, bags, footwear, and eyewear from Acne Studios for both men and women. Opening in this location emphasizes Tokyo’s importance as a significant international market for the brand, showcasing their creative ideas in a tangible way.
