As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher with over a decade of television consumption under my belt, I must say that Accused continues to impress me with its gripping storylines and thought-provoking themes. While episode 3 might have seemed a tad simpler compared to the previous two episodes, it still managed to keep me on the edge of my seat, especially with the nail-biting courtroom drama.

In the third installment of “Accused” season 2, we find ourselves in the courtroom as Marcus stands trial. Let’s delve into the events that unfolded during this gripping episode.

In the most recent installment of “Accused”, Nick Cannon portrayed the character Marcus who, together with Patrick J. Adams’s character Pete, managed a tech firm. Upon discovering that his programming was responsible for the demise of an innocent individual, Marcus began grappling with the heavy consequences of this revelation.

He and Pete are blackmailed with the threat to expose a flaw in the code that led to the death. It led to a breakdown of the working relationship and friendship between Pete and Marcus, and yet only Marcus ended up on trial. Let’s take a look at the events.

Who blackmailed Marcus and Pete in Accused?

In the end, someone from the company turned out to be the one who extorted the two individuals. This person wasn’t content because they had concealed a software problem and sought a larger compensation. When Pete neglected the matter and declined to provide her with the requested amount, she opted for blackmail as a solution.

Yet, it turned out that the blackmail incident caused a rift between Pete and Marcus. The employee chose to testify despite being charged with extortion herself. It was during this testimony that Marcus’s true trial circumstances came to light.

An altercation ensued between Pete and Marcus on the stairs, with their disagreement escalating over their course of action. As they argued, Pete lost his balance and tumbled over the railing, though it’s important to note that Marcus did not intentionally push him. The question then arises: Was Marcus close enough to prevent Pete from falling?

There is no doubt that Marcus caused Pete’s death, but was it murder? Was it manslaughter?

In the end, Marcus was found not guilty.

In simpler terms, the third installment felt less impactful compared to the previous two, as it primarily focused on Marcus’s accusation for involuntary manslaughter, while glossing over systemic racism in America. It would have been more powerful if the episode delved deeper into the topic of systemic racism and how even some Black individuals can unknowingly contribute to it, instead of saving that discussion for a brief conclusion.
