This weekend, “The Accountant 2,” starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, is hoping to create a splash at the box office. However, if Thursday’s previews are any guide, it seems that the action sequel might struggle to maintain the #2 spot, as it could potentially be overpowered by a 20-year-old “Star Wars” movie. In contrast, Ryan Coogler’s horror film, “Sinners,” is expected to hold onto the #1 position for another week. Initially, predictions had “The Accountant 2” finishing in a close second place; however, the 20th anniversary re-release of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” could disrupt these plans.
Prior to its broad launch on the specified date, “The Accountant 2” raked in a total of $2.5 million dollars during previews, including revenue from a special “Tax Day” screening held on April 15. On the other hand, “Revenge of the Sith,” initially released in 2005, generated an impressive $3.4 million in preview earnings last night, overshadowing “The Accountant 2.” As for this weekend’s box office battle between these two films, predictions suggest they will both earn anywhere from $20 to $25 million each. However, the ultimate victor won’t be revealed until Sunday.
