In the 1990s and early 2000s, you would often see the Acclaim logo on many video game covers, from games like NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat 2, Turok, the original Burnout, and numerous others. After filing for bankruptcy in 2004, this publisher is now preparing to re-emerge after more than two decades. According to a recent announcement, this new phase represents an exciting opportunity for the company as it aims to support independent developers and revive classic franchises. The Acclaim brand will offer resources such as funding, marketing, and PR support, enabling indie studios to share their creative ideas with a wider audience.
Acclaim plans to “bring back life and renew vitality” to some of its timeless intellectual properties from their extensive collection. An advisory board consisting of prominent figures in the industry, such as Russell Binder at Striker Entertainment, Mark Caplan at Ridge Partners, and Jeff Jarrett at Global Force Entertainment, will guide the development and expansion of Acclaim’s publishing label’s brands and projects moving forward.
Over three decades, I’ve been honored to be connected with both the wrestling and gaming worlds,” stated two-time Wrestling Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett. “I’m excited to announce that I’m now a partner in the reemergence of Acclaim, a renowned publisher famous for launching some of the most memorable games from the ’80s and ’90s. I look forward to contributing to the future development of Acclaim.
He shared that his journey, from contributing to the popular 16-bit WWF games by the publisher to assisting in developing the TNA Wrestling series, which produced the first video game wrestler to join the main roster in the ring, has given him a unique perspective on how impactful quality games can be for players and enthusiasts. Reviving Acclaim presents a chance to instill the same level of enthusiasm and affection into a new audience, and he’s thrilled to be part of this endeavor.
Veteran game industry leader Alex Josef has been appointed as the new CEO of Acclaim, leveraging over two decades of expertise in marketing and the publication of numerous console, PC, and mobile games. As per Josef, Acclaim has already secured some outstanding indie titles, with their unveiling imminent.
