“Absorbing” spy thriller with Bond and Slow Horses stars now free to stream in the UK

The spy thriller Our Kind of Traitor, based on a John le Carré novel, is now available to stream in the UK. Originally released in 2016, the film stars Saskia Reeves (known from Slow Horses) and Naomie Harris (who played Eve Moneypenny in the James Bond films).

The game’s got an amazing cast! You’ve got Ewan McGregor from Star Wars, Damian Lewis who I loved in Homeland, and Stellan Skarsgård, who’s great in everything, including Sentimental Value. And get this – John le Carré himself even makes a little surprise appearance!

The film Our Kind of Traitor centers on Perry and Gail MacKendrick, portrayed by Ewan McGregor and Jessica Harris, who meet a Russian mafia money launderer named Dima (Alexander Skarsgård) while on vacation in Marrakech.

Hey, so I just finished watching Our Kind of Traitor – it’s directed by Susanna White and the story’s by Hossein Amini. If you’re in the UK, you can find it streaming on Channel 4. And for my US friends, it’s up on Prime Video. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into spy thrillers!

Okay, so the movie kinda split people – I saw a lot of mixed opinions online. But, critics seem to like it! Rotten Tomatoes shows about 72% of them gave it a positive review, and that’s based on over 140 reviews, so it’s a pretty solid score.

Reviewers have called the film a fascinating look at its characters (according to The Australian). While The Toronto Star notes the movie is still captivating, it might upset some fans of John le Carré’s original novel because it changes the ending.

I’ve been reading a lot about the movie, and RogerEbert.com really liked it, calling it a beautiful and engaging film. Some other critics thought it wasn’t one of the best adaptations of a le Carré novel, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer, but everyone seems to agree that Lewis and Skarsgård gave absolutely fantastic performances – Rolling Stone definitely highlighted that!

The Swedish actor recently received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Gustav Borg, a film director and estranged father, in Joachim Trier’s film Sentimental Value. The movie also stars Renate Reinsve, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Elle Fanning.
