Okay, so writer Scott Snyder just dropped some seriously exciting news! He confirmed that some of the Batman villains we’ve all been waiting for are finally showing up, and he gave us a little tease about when we can expect them in what’s already shaping up to be one of the best Batman comics in years. I’m so hyped!
I just saw this on PopVerse! Apparently, James Tynion IV hinted in a TikTok posted by 2023tylerweld that the Court of Owls could be showing up in Absolute Batman pretty soon – like, maybe even issue #17! As a huge Batman fan, I’m so excited to see this iconic secret society make a return!
Scott Snyder helped create the Court of Owls, who first appeared in a DC Comics storyline called New 52. Since then, this secret society of Gotham’s wealthiest families has shown up in various DC Comics stories. There’s been a lot of discussion among fans about whether Matt Reeves will use the Court of Owls as the main villains in the next The Batman movie, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Snyder hasn’t revealed how the Court of Owls will be introduced into the “Absolute” universe, leaving fans to guess until Absolute Batman #17 is released.
The Court of Owls is essentially Gotham City’s secret society, similar to the Illuminati, and has secretly controlled the city for hundreds of years. They’re known for being extremely violent and wielding significant power through money and politics. To eliminate any opposition, they employ highly skilled assassins called Talons. It’s been revealed that the Court isn’t acting alone; they’re part of a larger, even more powerful group called the Parliament of Owls.
What To Expect From DC Comics’ Absolute Universe Moving Forward
Many readers and critics consider Absolute Batman to be one of the best Batman comics in recent years, and DC Comics’ Absolute Universe is receiving similar praise for its clever updates to classic storylines. Beyond the introduction of the mysterious Court of Owls, this universe is building exciting team-ups within individual comic arcs. Absolute Wonder Woman #15 showcased the first significant team-up in this universe, and fans are hoping to see many more.
When Wonder Woman visited Batman in Gotham City, it sparked talk about the possible creation of a major Justice League team. DC Comics has seen strong sales of its ‘Absolute Universe’ comics, reportedly around 2.8 million, and estimates suggest it could reach 3 million. More of DC’s famous characters are planned to appear in this ‘Absolute Universe’ storyline.
