Abraham Quintanilla dead at 86: Selena’s dad managed Tejano icon and produced biopic with Jennifer Lopez

Abraham Quintanilla, the father of the famous Tejano singer Selena, has passed away at the age of 86, his family announced.

Similar to his daughter, Abraham was originally from South Texas. He started his entertainment career in the 1950s as a singer with a group called the Dinos.

He’s best remembered as his daughter’s manager, a job he continued until her tragic death in 1995, when she was only 23 years old.

Following her passing, he passionately protected her memory, and even helped produce the 1997 film Selena, which starred Jennifer Lopez.

A.B. Quintanilla shared the news of his father’s passing on Instagram Saturday, saying, ‘It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of my father’s death today…’

This announcement followed the recent release of the Netflix documentary Selena y Los Dinos, which detailed her journey to fame with the band her father, Abraham, created.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for the Quintanilla family for comment.
