Abbie Chatfield’s Meltdown Sparks Industry Outrage and Karma Comes to Play
I often find myself living by an old Chinese saying, which goes something like: Spend enough time near a river, and eventually, those who have wronged you will appear on its surface.” This version maintains the original sentiment while making it more accessible to readers who may not be familiar with proverbs.
Essentially, this implies that if someone harms you, don’t retaliate immediately, as Karma is ready to act at its own pace. It might not happen right away, perhaps not even tomorrow, but rest assured, in due time, without any action required from you, justice will eventually come knocking on their door.
Over the past weekend, the phrase that popped into my head was triggered by an intense reaction from podcast host Abbie Chatfield. This reaction occurred following feminist writer Clementine Ford’s criticism, which included calling Abbie a “hypocritical” person.
Although it appears that Ford’s complaints against Abbie are endless, he is notably angered by an interview Abbie conducted with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his election campaign for her podcast titled “It’s a Lot.
Ford, an advocate for Palestine, deemed the action as “public relations” on the part of a world leader whom they think hasn’t been strong enough in opposing Israel.
Abbie’s reaction came quickly and was quite intense. Streams of tears fell as her voice trembled with sorrow. In an urgent plea, she implored Clementine, someone she says she has only met twice, to halt the actions that she claims are stripping away her humanity and causing severe damage to her mental well-being.
She tearfully expressed her disapproval on Instagram over the weekend about being falsely accused of misrepresenting her personality and objectives. On Monday, she admitted to feeling down and detached due to the disagreement.
Cry me a river.

It brought back memories of a young child throwing a fit in a toy store, refusing to leave without buying another Troll doll.
Was the display of emotion genuine? Indeed, it appears so. Abbie is exceptionally skilled in marketing strategies, however, she lacks acting abilities. Therefore, I feel compelled to express this before proceeding: Abbie, if by any chance you’re reading this, please seek assistance. Engaging in such responses towards criticism online isn’t typical behavior.
Clearly, I’m not enjoying the idea of others going through hard times. Honestly, it isn’t my preference. If Abbie’s mental health appears to be at a critical stage, then I believe she should sign out, return home to her mother or partner, give up her phone and stay disconnected until this turbulence subsides.
However, it’s noteworthy that numerous individuals, even those in similar fields as Abbie such as media, fashion, PR, and influencing, sent me identical messages across the weekend for a specific reason.
Finally.
Abbie, even though I’m making a genuine effort to understand and feel for you, it’s important to remember this: Whatever kindness you extend should be reciprocated.
For anyone familiar with Abbie’s sharp criticisms, we can relate to the discomfort of realizing we are under her scrutiny.
Over the course of the next day, expect unceasing criticism from her devoted followers, who view her as an unerring symbol of contemporary feminism – essentially a modern-day heroine like Joan of Arc.

As one who has experienced it firsthand, let me tell you, it left an indelible mark on me. Though I’m not easily intimidated, the memory of that moment still sends a chill down my spine. It was a feeling I had never encountered before and hoped never to encounter again. That incident is etched deeply into my memory.
I dared to express a differing opinion with her, which led not only to her harshly criticizing me in front of her over 500,000 followers, but also digging through her private messages to find an old, personal message I had sent years ago regarding myself and my family. She didn’t hesitate to share this message publicly.
Observing her weep and blame Clementine for overstepping boundaries this time, a small portion of me found it remarkably exhilarating.
Many individuals under public scrutiny share accounts of being criticized or embarrassed by Abbie. Although most remained quiet, I suspect they are secretly enjoying the recent events.
On The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Brittany Hockley found herself in a sticky situation after casually discussing Abbie’s dating habits, a topic Abbie often discusses freely.
Domenica Calarco, a cast member on Married At First Sight, sought help at a mental health facility following criticism that branded her as an insincere feminist.
Comedian Nikki Osborne faced harsh criticism from Abbie’s followers after she made an inappropriate joke likening Covid vaccine mandates to the infamous Hollywood casting couch.
Aby directly attacked Nikki, implying that she was joking about rape. Nikki’s reaction to the attack was heartbreakingly sad. ‘Dear Everyone, You’ve been given incorrect information. Your argument is not with me. I am on your side. Sincerely, Survivor of the Casting Couch.’
Regarding the pandemic, Abbie showed a fiery side, criticizing Home and Away actress Sam Frost and singer Tones and I.
Neither woman is beyond criticism, of course. But I felt neither deserved it.

Abby asserts that she is not a bully, claiming her vigorous criticisms of other prominent personalities are justified and fair.
Sure thing. It’s understandable that she can’t dictate others’ emotions when they encounter her outbursts, as feelings aren’t something one has direct control over.
Due to recent events, she hasn’t garnered much empathy this week. However, it’s clear that many still admire and support Clementine Ford.
Thank you. Finally someone punched back.
Abby, for quite some time now, you’ve established a highly successful online presence by pointing out mistakes or issues of others. Now, it’s your chance to receive the same treatment.
Among the women you may have treated unfairly, there is no one to offer comfort or sympathy. Instead, they are contentedly observing from a distance by the riverside.
