Abbie Chatfield makes heartbreaking decision to rehome her puppy Daisy and begs her followers not to lash out at her
As a longtime pet owner and admirer of Abbie’s passion for her furry friends, I can empathize with her heart-wrenching decision to rehome Daisy. Having gone through similar situations myself, I understand that making such a choice is never easy, but sometimes it’s the most loving option for all parties involved.
Abbie Chatfield has made the heartbreaking decision to rehome her almost one-year-old puppy Daisy.
The FBoy Island Australia host, 29, announced the sad news on her It’s a Lot podcast on Tuesday.
In my recent Instagram post sharing an episode, I kindly requested my dear followers to give the entire episode a good listen before offering their valuable thoughts and comments.
In today’s recording, she expressed her anxiety. She was concerned about potential negative responses due to a sensitive topic that left her feeling uneasy and uncomfortable.
“I feel comfortable being truthful since I strongly believe the choice I made was best for all parties, including myself.
‘I’ve had to rehome Daisy.’
Daisy is a one-year-old cocker spaniel the media personality adopted into her family in April.
‘I’m going to cry,’ Abbie said as she began to explain her decision.
Daisy is my relatively young pup, while my older canine companion, Mr. Walter, is eight years old. In about a week or two, Daisy will turn one.
Due to Walter’s past issues and how they’ve been affecting him, I’ve made the difficult decision to find a new home for her. Please understand that I’ve struggled with this choice for the past six months before taking action.
Walter suffers from anxiety caused by his previous owners.
Abbie shared during the podcast, “I’ve put forth every possible effort, and it never crossed my mind that I would relinquish a dog.
In her residence, a two-bedroom flat located in Sydney, Abigail shared that she has made every possible effort to discover a method for her two canines to coexist harmoniously.
Before she adopted Daisy, Abbie said she has never heard Walter growl.
Abbie mentioned that her boyfriend, Adam, often refers to one of their dogs as a “sugar loaf” or a large, round shape. She jokingly described him as a “blob of a dog.” Since she started dating the lead singer of Peking Duk, the relationship between their two pets has greatly improved.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that statement like this: While Walter may not have shown signs of aggression towards his sister Daisy in a direct sense, it’s clear that he fiercely protects his personal time with her, indicating a strong bond and affection between them.
She mentioned that things improved for her once she began dating Adam, as now there were two people to lean on. Daisy seemed more secure with Adam, while Walter found comfort in her presence. However, when Adam is away, Walter appears to experience twice the amount of anxiety because he had grown accustomed to having Adam around. This was her statement.
During those three days, Adam often performed, while Daisy slept in another room and Walter experienced night terrors. It seems as though they are all dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event, much like someone suffering from battle fatigue or shell shock.
Abby clarified that both dog trainers and her veterinarian informed her that Walter exhibits “possessive behavior,” a trait dogs often show when safeguarding treasured items like toys or bones, or in this case, his owner.
She said he would growl at Daisy and now regularly pins her down because he’s jealous.
‘I had a 10 minute shower and he did it three times. She stands there completely still, shaking. She’s not doing anything to him.’
At first, Abbie thought that the issue would clear up once Daisy matured beyond her puppy stage and learned to stop exhibiting some of her bothersome habits.
Those included ‘liquid pooing’ all over a flokati rug and destroying multiple couches.
As she grew older, she became less bothersome, yet it appeared that his patience with her decreased even though her behavior improved, according to her statement.
Looking back, I naively assumed that owning a puppy would increase his playfulness and happiness around the house.
Due to the anxiety he’s been experiencing, especially since my traumatic abusive relationship last year, he finds it difficult to be in close proximity to him.
‘I love her more than anything and she’s done nothing wrong,’ Abbie continued.
She likened the relationship between the two dogs to that of King Charles and Princess Dianna.
‘She’s Lady Di – and she has an evil man living at home – and that’s Walter,’ Abbie joked lovingly.
Initially, Abby explained that she moved to the Northern Rivers specifically for her and Daisy to get accustomed to each other in their new relationship, but it seemed like they were unable to do so.
Additionally, she placed Daisy in a boarding school, whereas Walter stayed behind with a pet caretaker when she journeyed to the United States. She also consulted professional dog trainers and veterinarians for their knowledgeable guidance.
When she attended boarding school, he became quite sad. She mused, “Does he have feelings for her or not?
‘Side note: If you’re thinking of getting a puppy, my answer is don’t.’
Sadly, Walther’s jealousy towards Daisy is an issue the television and radio host acknowledged couldn’t be easily resolved, and she wasn’t keen on subjecting either pet to the emotional distress of living together for a prolonged period while she tried to find a solution.
She made it clear that having a puppy being challenging wasn’t the cause for her giving it up; that’s just not the case, she emphasized.
I’m afraid I lack the necessary abilities, knowledge about dogs, or training experience to help Walter and Daisy with their relationship. In other words, I’m not a dog behavior specialist.
Abbie added that if she was being selfish, she would have kept both dogs.
If I were only thinking about myself, I could have divided our daily exercise into two 40-minute walks rather than one longer two-hour walk each day. However, I choose to prioritize our bonding time together over my personal convenience, and I firmly believe that I make a great dog parent.
kindly refrain from direct messaging me, as I’ve been deeply emotional about this situation for several months now, ever since I made the choice to part ways with her.
During the 45-minute recording, Abbie talked extensively about the various efforts she makes for her dogs. This includes designing challenging trails for their daily walks.
She mentioned that she rarely drinks alcohol these days, as she prefers to avoid the discomfort of a hangover for Walter.
I prefer arranging for them to take a leisurely two-hour stroll that includes visiting different creeks, beaches, or parks.
The well-known TV and radio personality has experienced a significant emotional strain due to the decision. She mentioned that even up until recently, when she handed over Daisy to her new owners, she was weeping hysterically in the shower.
I’ve nurtured her and navigated through the challenging phases of her young life. I’ve shouldered all the tough responsibilities in her upbringing. She is an exceptional canine companion.
“She often wraps her arms around my neck while sleeping. I’m unable to erase the past traumas from his mind, but what I can provide is a secure environment for him to reside.
Abby mentioned that she found Daisy a new home with her friend’s sister residing in Brisbane. The friend’s sister made the trip from Sydney to collect Daisy personally.
She gathered and organized everything belonging to Daisy, including notes about her dietary needs and favorite activities, to help her new caretaker.
In a few weeks, she became completely convinced that it was the appropriate choice for both dogs, yet she is filled with sorrow, as expressed in the caption of her podcast post.
Even though I already feel as if I’ve failed, I firmly believe that it was entirely unselfish to ensure that both of my loved ones weren’t just surviving but genuinely enjoying their living situation.
A multitude of Abbie’s 491,000 Instagram followers flocked to the comment section to shower praise on her decision and provide heartwarming messages of support and motivation.
