A$AP Rocky’s mom Renee Black was rooting for him to date Rihanna: ‘Mothers know best!’

A$AP Rocky says his mother, Rina Black, has been a strong supporter of his relationship with Rihanna and the mother of his child.

In a preview for this week’s NYT Popcast, the 37-year-old rapper shared something his mother used to tell him. He explained she’d say things like, ‘I know you’re dating someone,’ but then add that she’d prefer he be with Rihanna, without revealing who he was dating at the time.

I used to tell my mom, “Why are you always saying that? That girl isn’t interested in me like that. We’re just friends, Mom. Relax!” But my mom insisted, “I’m telling you, she likes you.”

Mothers really do know best. I’m grateful she came into my life when she did, because I wasn’t prepared for that kind of relationship before then, and I don’t think she was either.

A$AP Rocky (born Rakim Athelaston Mayers) has dated several well-known women, including Teyana Taylor, Sophie Brussaux, Kendall Jenner, Rita Ora, Chanel Iman, and Iggy Azalea.

The 37-year-old singer has been linked to several high-profile men, including Chris Brown, Shia LaBeouf, John Hartnett, Drake, Ryan Phillippe, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Travis Scott.

The Grammy-nominated artist first connected with Rihanna (born Robyn Fenty) in 2011 when she asked him to feature on her song “Cockiness (Love It).” However, their romantic relationship didn’t start until 2020.

‘I got with a very special woman,’ A$AP Rocky gushed.

We have a lot in common – we were born in the same year, and my dad is from the same country as her. When I visit family, I get to connect with both sides. It’s funny how many similarities there are, and we often joke about them. She’s always been like a sister to me, someone I’ve always been close to and enjoyed spending time with.

The New Yorker was talking about the matching tattoos they both got in 1988, and how his father, Adrian ‘Duke’ Mayers, who passed away, was originally from Barbados.

‘A woman will change your whole life especially if it’s a companion,’ A$AP Rocky noted.

Before having kids, being with my girlfriend felt incredibly freeing. It was like she instantly showed me who was truly supportive and who wasn’t. She’d quickly point out who I could really trust and who to avoid, offering a clear perspective on my relationships.

Rihanna supported A$AP Rocky as he potentially faced up to eight years in prison related to a 2021 shooting involving his friend, A$AP Relli.

After the jury found him not guilty on February 18th in the assault case involving a semi-automatic firearm, A$AP Rocky excitedly jumped into the arms of the nine-time Grammy winner.

Rihanna and her partner welcomed their third child, a daughter named Rocki Irish Mayers, on September 13th. They are also parents to sons RZA Athelston, age three, and Riot Rose, age two.

On Sunday, the actress known for playing a Smurf playfully suggested she might be thinking about having a fourth baby. She responded to a post by former Love Island contestant Montana Brown, who was pondering whether to focus on getting in shape or trying for a baby in 2026.

Rihanna replied: ‘Wait! So I’m not crazy then? Bet!’

Rapper Helicopter is actively promoting his new album, ‘Don’t Be Dumb,’ which features 15 tracks and will be released this Friday.
