A$AP Rocky’s First Ray-Ban Campaign As Creative Director Is Homegrown in Harlem

Summary

  • A$AP Rocky has officially lifted the veil on his Wayfarer Puffer frames after showing off the sunglasses at the Met Gala and Cannes Film Festival
  • Rocky also revealed his first campaign as Creative Director to commemorate the release, casting a lineup of local models from his hometown Harlem streets to front the campaign alongside him
  • The glasses land in shades of red, pink, black, blue, green, and yellow and retail for $202 USD

Back in February, it appeared that A$AP Rocky taking on the role of Ray-Ban’s inaugural creative director was a natural progression for the rapper who is known to be an avid fan of eyewear.

Following the introduction of the “Black Out Collection” as his initial project, Rocky became particularly captivated by Ray-Ban’s iconic Wayfarer shape. He made a bold statement by donning an exclusive “Wayfarer Puffer” sunglasses design at this year’s Met Gala, which boasted an 18-karat gold logo, natural diamonds, and precious gemstones. A week later, he sported another unique Wayfarer pair on the Red Carpet during the Cannes Film Festival.

Finally, Ray-Ban and Rocky have officially revealed the Wayfarer Puffer and its Harlem-themed advertising campaign. Reflecting the rapper’s culture, community, and personal style, the shoot showcases a group of local artists and residents wearing the puffed-up frames on the very streets where Flacko spent his childhood; a vivid depiction of the silhouette’s motto: “Grown in Harlem. Created for everyone.

Although Wayfarer Puffers aren’t adorned with 18-karat gold or embellished with real diamonds, they boast an elegant array of polished colors such as red, blue, pink, yellow, green, black, and white instead. Each pair retails for approximately $202 USD.
