Aang actor reveals the scenes he’s most excited to film in live-action Avatar series
As a gamer who has lived through countless virtual worlds and narratives, I can confidently say that stepping into the shoes of Aang in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender is an exhilarating journey. Having binged the original series 26 times (and counting), I feel like I’ve earned my stripes as a fanatic Airbender enthusiast.
Gordon Cormier puts great effort into portraying Aang in Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” as evidenced by his statement that he watched the Nickelodeon series 26 times prior to taking on the live-action role. His performance is impressive, striking a balance between Aang’s kind and humorous nature and a deeper, emotional side. Additionally, Cormier demonstrates proficiency in martial arts moves for the character.
Though Netflix’s Avatar remake didn’t follow a frame-by-frame copy, it still emerged as a remarkable triumph. It recreated numerous memorable scenes, yet gave them a gloomier twist – occasionally enhancing the story, at other times detracting from it. The streaming platform has already greenlit additional seasons to run until the conclusion of the series.
Starting this month, filming for season 2 of the series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will commence. During Netflix’s upcoming event, “Geeked Week,” starting on September 16th, we can expect some exciting updates about season 2. Meanwhile, Cormier has been vocalizing his enthusiasm about breathing life into well-known plotlines from the animated series. To steer clear of potential spoilers, it’s best to skip the quote below.
Cormier expressed to ComicBook, “Adding Zuko to our group is going to be incredibly exciting! The fight between him and Ozai will also be thrilling. With all the special effects involved, it’s really going to be something amazing to see!
I share your excitement about Zuko joining the team we know as the Gaang. His storyline is a standout in the series, often praised for its depth; many consider Zuko’s character development as one of the greatest arcs ever written. Among the upcoming battles, none stir me up quite like the one from “The Chase,” where Aang, Zuko, and Azula square off in an unforgettable face-off.
Prior to the commencement of filming for season 2, Cormier shared that his goal to watch as many Avatar films as he could has become less frequent. “To be honest, after viewing it 26 times, you begin to grasp its nuances. However, I have certainly rewatched it on some occasions since then,” he stated.
The second season of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” isn’t expected to release for a while, possibly in 2026 or early 2027. Until then, you can catch up on season 1, which is now available on Netflix. Alternatively, you could strive to watch the animated series as many times as Gordon Cormier claims he did!
