A24 valuation jumps to $3.5 billion with new funding round

As a long-time movie enthusiast with a deep appreciation for indie films and the art of storytelling, I have witnessed A24’s meteoric rise in the film industry with great interest and admiration. Known for their unique and critically acclaimed productions, this New York-based studio has consistently pushed boundaries and challenged the status quo in cinema.

Indie film studio A24, famous for producing art house movies, potential Academy Award nominees, and high-end horror films, has secured fresh financing spearheaded by investment firm Thrive Capital.

The studio declined to disclose the size of the funding round.

According to a source close to the situation, the successful fundraising campaign boosted the company’s worth to approximately $3.5 billion – a 40% surge from its last financing event.

In the year 2022, the studio held its initial fundraising round, amassing a total of $225 million. This significant investment was spearheaded by the reputed firm Stripes. Consequently, the studio’s valuation stood at an impressive $2.5 billion following this funding event.

A24, based in New York, expressed their excitement in a released statement about collaborating with Thrive Capital. The unique knowledge and skills Thrive Capital brings to the table will significantly contribute to A24’s development.

Thrive Capital, a New York-based venture capital firm known for investing in internet and software businesses, has an impressive track record. They’ve previously funded tech heavyweights like Instagram, Spotify, and Stripe. Now, Josh Kushner, Thrive Capital’s founder, is set to join the board of directors at A24.

At A24, exceptional artists and innovators unite with forward-thinking business strategies and advanced technology to revolutionize entertainment for today’s world, according to Thrive Capital’s declaration.

A24 experienced great success with their political apocalyptic thriller “Civil War,” released in April, which is A24’s most expensive production to date, with a budget of $50 million. The movie, featuring Kirsten Dunst, generated over $120 million in revenue at the international box office.

The studio has gained a devoted fanbase for its intricately crafted, award-winning films such as “Uncut Gems,” “Hereditary,” and “Lady Bird.” Their productions “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Moonlight” were honored with the Oscar for Best Picture.

As a movie buff, I’ve been impressed with A24’s foray into television. They’ve brought us the addictive HBO series “Euphoria,” which has kept me hooked with its raw and realistic portrayal of teenage life. And who could forget “The Curse” on Showtime? With its quirky and satirical take on the world, it’s been a breath of fresh air in my TV-watching experience.
