A Working Man: Statham & Stallone Break Their Box Office Curse with $86 Million Success!
In the latest action film titled “A Working Man“, Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone reunited once more. This movie intentionally steered clear of setting a box office record, one that neither of them wished to surpass. The dynamic duo of action stars initially teamed up in 2010 for the film “The Expendables“. Since then, they have frequently collaborated on films together. However, movies like “A Working Man” showcase a unique aspect of their partnership, where Stallone takes on a different role – he co-wrote the screenplay for “A Working Man“, rather than sharing the limelight as a co-star.
Following the grizzled action star’s efforts to adapt Levon’s Trade into a TV series, it unfortunately didn’t take flight. Although a Sylvester Stallone appearance in A Working Man didn’t materialize, this film still signifies their sixth collaboration on-screen. They’ve had quite a bit of success together, as demonstrated by the financial success of the Expendables movie series. However, their partnership isn’t always prosperous. The positive aspect is that A Working Man‘s box office earnings have already achieved a significant milestone for both actors.
A Working Man Avoided Being Jason Statham & Sylvester Stallone’s Lowest Grossing Movie Collaboration
It’s Done Good Business At The Box Office
Following around a month of screenings, “A Working Man” has brought in a substantial income for Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, director David Ayer, and Amazon MGM. As I write this, the movie has accumulated $86.9 million at the global box office. This figure is significantly lower than their previous action film, “The Beekeeper” ($162 million), but it’s still managing to attract viewers worldwide. Consequently, “A Working Man” looks set to avoid being the least profitable movie that Statham and Stallone have made together.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I must admit that The Expendables 4 seems destined to hold an unfortunate record – the lowest-grossing film starring both Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham. In 2023, their latest collaboration hit the screens but unfortunately flopped spectacularly at the box office, managing just $37 million. This meager take effortlessly surpassed the previous mark set by Homefront ($48 million), making The Expendables 4 the movie with the lowest earnings for these two action legends. However, A Working Man has come along and more than doubled the box office returns of The Expendables 4, easily resetting this unwanted record.
A Working Man Gives Jason Statham & Sylvester Stallone Their First Hit Together Since 2012
As a cinephile, I must say that “A Working Man,” with an estimated budget of $40 million, is poised to become a blockbuster hit in no time. All it needs is to gross around $100 million globally to surpass the standard benchmark where a film recoups its production costs by earning 2.5 times its budget at the box office. This is quite remarkable for Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham, as “A Working Man” marks their first joint movie since 2012 that’s guaranteed to be a financial success at the box office.
2012 marked the peak of Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone’s collaborative success at the box office for me. The release of “The Expendables 2” brought in a staggering $314.9 million, surpassing its $100 million budget significantly. However, our subsequent ventures, “Homefront” and “The Expendables 3”, fell just short. “Homefront” managed to make $48 million despite costing $22 million, barely scraping the breakeven point. “The Expendables 3” followed with a gross of $214 million against a reported budget of $90M to $100M, falling anywhere between $11 million and $36 million short. Regrettably, “The Expendables 4” failed to recoup even half its budget at the box office. Now, the partnership has found redemption with the release of “A Working Man”.
