A “very clever” cosy crime thriller you “won’t want to miss” gets new UK streaming home

Sew Torn, the crime thriller described as “very clever”, has found a new streaming home in the UK.

In 2024, a movie I’m excited about, directed and partially penned by Freddy Macdonald, tells my story as a gamer-turned-seamstress, Barbara Duggen (Eve Connolly), battling to keep her fabric store afloat amid tough financial times.

Following an unintentional involvement in a drug transaction gone wrong that leads to Barbara’s presence, the character encounters a crossroads with three possible actions – reporting it to the authorities, leaving the scene, or executing a flawless crime. With her store’s future on the line, the narrative explores consequences stemming from each of these potential courses of action.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that I recently discovered “Sew Torn,” a captivating film featuring Calum Worthy and John Lynch in pivotal roles. Initially unveiled in the US theaters in May, it has now graced our screens in the UK and Ireland. You can now find it on Sky Cinema and the streaming service NOW, making it easily accessible for fans like myself. Enjoy!

In March, the crime thriller made its debut at South by Southwest and has garnered praise from critics. Currently, Rotten Tomatoes is showing a remarkable 95% approval rating based on 39 reviews.

In a review, Variety found that some viewers might appreciate the movie’s ridiculousness, while others might think it pushes humor too far, but it will certainly spark interest in director Macdonald. On the other hand, LAist considered the storyline to be quite smart, though it has a hint of familiarity.

Bloody Disgusting found the movie to be similarly positive, praising it as a cozy crime thriller that was inventive and whimsical. On the other hand, Mashable stated that viewers wouldn’t want to miss out on this quirky film.

Bloody Disgusting called it an inventive and whimsical cozy crime thriller, while Mashable suggested audiences shouldn’t miss the quirky movie.

In simpler terms, RogerEbert.com considered the movie as being somewhat unconventional, while Cinemalogue stated that despite its attempts reaching beyond limits, this peculiar crime thriller manages to handle some intriguing sci-fi turns effectively by blending humor and tension in a satisfying manner.

If you prefer immersive musical tales over cozy mystery stories, then you’re in luck! Both Sky Cinema and NOW have expanded their offerings by adding the highly successful film “Wicked” to their platforms as of last Friday, July 11th.

Following the popular Broadway show titled the same, the initial part of this dual narrative traces the paths of characters Elphaba (portrayed by Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (played by Ariana Grande). As their enchanting adventure unfolds, they traverse various regions in the magical land of Oz.

Sew Torn is streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW.
