In this chilling horror movie, Theo James plays both Hal and Bill, two long-separated twin brothers. They come together to confront a malevolent toy monkey, a relic from their troubled past, which has continued to terrorize them throughout their lives.
Under the direction of Osgood Perkins, who is also known for “Longlegs”, and adapted from a chilling Stephen King short story titled “The Monkey”, this film revolves around the resurfaced titular toy which resumes its bloody spree of killing people in creative and gory fashion, after a 25-year hiatus.

After its debut, the horror movie garnered mainly favorable comments from reviewers and now boasts an approval rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 292 critic evaluations.
The publication, The Wrap, described “The Monkey” as a “comic masterpiece of dark humor, with jokes packing such a powerful punch that they might cause an explosion.
From the start, it’s complete chaos and there is a skill in creating innovative methods for surpassing gruesome deaths in a horror film, as stated by the Arizona Republic.
The movie has been likened to “Final Destination” by some reviewers, as the AV Club put it: “This film is a blend of ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Final Destination,’ offering a darkly humorous take on the idea that we’re all living under an unseen guillotine whose blade could drop at any given moment.
The Rolling Stone review states that “Final Destination” seems to be influenced by Stephen King’s original work, but also praises director Jeffrey Reddick for skillfully incorporating his unique blend of dark humor and thought-provoking themes, intentionally making viewers feel uncomfortable.
