A “terrific” legal thriller that “delivers relentless tension” gets new UK streaming home

Clint Eastwood’s latest movie Juror #2 is now available to stream in the UK.

In 2024, the movie was unveiled, featuring Nicholas Hoult from Superman in the lead role of the main juror. This family man finds himself serving jury duty for a well-known murder case.

As events unfold, the character Justin Kemp, played by Hoult, who is both a journalist and a person in recovery from alcoholism, begins to suspect that his actions might have led to the victim’s demise.

The movie has been given a “Fresh” certification on Rotten Tomatoes, with a critic’s rating of 93% and an audience rating of 90%.

Praise for Eastwood’s directing style has been abundant in what might be his last movie. One review, from ABC News, lauds the 94-year-old director for creating a “tension-filled, excellent legal thriller that condemns our flawed justice system.

In other places, The Observer labels Justin Kemp’s role as “potentially pivotal” for Hoult. Moreover, they mention that Eastwood’s directing style brings about consistent tension and moral depth to the movie, which might signify an impressive final act in his career.

Most of the unfavorable reviews for Juror #2 focus on the screenplay written by Jonathan Abrams, frequently describing it as lacking in wit or spark (“not zingy enough”) and expressing that it appears amateurish (as noted by the Wall Street Journal).

Critics have lauded the performances, and it’s not just Douglas Booth who has earned recognition, but Toni Collette as well, being highlighted in numerous reviews.

As a devoted admirer, I can say that for me, “Culturess” showcases gifted actors such as Hoult and Collette, who skillfully display their acting prowess within an intimate setting. Meanwhile, ABC pointed out that this duo played a significant role in helping Eastwood delve into the complex territory between heroism and villainy.
