“A tense and emotional tale”: Netflix’s new real-life thriller looks like a must-see

Netflix is one week away from releasing iHostage, a new thriller based on real-life events.

The idea behind iHostage originates from the real-life hostage situation that transpired at the Apple Store located on Amsterdam’s Leidseplein/Leiden Square, which occurred in 2022.

In the preview, a man armed with weapons enters a shop, capturing several individuals as hostages. The Dutch law enforcement promptly responds to the situation.

The gun-wielding individual implies his actions are motivated by unaddressed injustices he’s experienced, and the peace mediator aims to gather details about his background and appeal for a non-violent resolution instead.

Yet, while other parties may hold differing views, interfering with the negotiator’s efforts could potentially escalate the situation to a critical point.

The movie, titled “iHostage,” is a tense and suspenseful drama that draws inspiration from the real-life 2022 hostage situation at an Apple Store in Amsterdam. This film tells the story of a man from Bulgaria who finds himself in a perilous predicament as a gunman takes control of the building, holding everyone inside hostage.

From the perspectives of the assailant, the captives, and the initial responders, iHostage tells a gripping and emotionally charged story about bravery, endurance, and the enduring effects of fear.

The film is directed by Bobby Boermans (The Golden Hour) and written by Simon de Waal (Sleepers).
