A tearful night for new national treasure Chris McCausland… acclaimed as ‘a light that dances for all to see’ after much-loved stand -up becomes Strictly’s first blind contestant to lift the glitterball trophy
As a dedicated follower of Strictly Come Dancing, I can confidently say that last night’s finale was nothing short of extraordinary. Watching Chris McCausland lift the glitterball and burst into tears was a moment I won’t forget anytime soon.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: When the producers of “Strictly” decided to bring on board the Liverpudlian comedian Chris McCausland, they didn’t expect him to stick around for long, perhaps just a fortnight or so. Little did they know…
However, last night, the cherished stand-up comedian, who was also the first blind competitor, hoisted the glitterball trophy before breaking down in tears, expressing his triumph as “incredible.
In honor of his dance partner Dianne Buswell, he expressed: “I’m at a loss for words. Honestly, I believed I would be eliminated in the first few weeks, although no one was during the initial week. Yet, I still thought it could happen. Somehow, we’ve managed to keep going and going, and she has drawn so much from me. She truly deserves this recognition.
‘This message is for those who were told that they couldn’t achieve something or doubted their own abilities. It serves as proof that with the right opportunities, backing, and perseverance, amazing things can come to fruition.’
It certainly was an emotional evening for McCausland as he took on his new friends, Miranda actress Sarah Hadland, 53, singer JB Gill, 38, and Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, 26, to win the show.
Despite being the weakest dancer among the four, he was the one who garnered the most audience support. In fact, it was the viewer’s votes that ultimately led to his triumph, even though he placed last on the leaderboard at the end of last night’s performance.
After his last performance, which was a waltz set to the tune of Liverpool FC’s anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry and the Pacemakers, there was a vast outpouring of emotion, as evidenced by many tears being shed.
Among the most poignant instances in Strictly’s two-decade run, McCausland and Ms. Buswell found themselves shedding tears alongside judges Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse.

Even host Tess Daly had to resist crying as the 47-year-old star was given his first 40 out of 40 of the series.
Ms. Ballas said to him, “You won’t have to go it alone, I believe the entire nation will be keeping tabs on everything you do.
At some point, Judge Craig Revel Horwood read out a letter he had penned for McCausland, describing him as a ‘beacon of light visible to all’.
Without a doubt, the comedy series has become a cherished national asset. Since its premiere, viewers nationwide have consistently voted for it in massive numbers, thus sparing it from the perilous dance-offs.
Under the watchful eyes of his cherished wife Patricia, McCausland kicked off his evening with their favorite dance to Instant Karma (We All Shine On) by John Lennon. For a brief while, as they danced, the entire studio plunged into darkness, subtly echoing McCausland’s world.
Ms Mabuse, with tears flowing freely, declared, “Chris, I’m a shambles, and it’s all thanks to you. I vowed not to shed a tear in this final. Yet, here I am, having danced the first time with you, and all those 300 hours of makeup I put on for this moment seem wasted.
Following that, McCausland displayed an exceptional showdance to “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals. Unsurprisingly, Ms. Ballas – tears streaming down her face – exclaimed: ‘Simply remarkable! You’ve forged new paths in this ballroom, without a doubt.’ Throughout the entire series, she added.

Anton Du Beke also offered kind words. He said to McCausland, “Are you the most talented dancer we’ve ever had on Strictly Come Dancing? Likely not. But are you an exceptionally remarkable individual? Definitely.
McCausland’s win was appropriate since throughout the competition, it became evident that viewers favored celebrities embarking on a ‘journey’, as opposed to skilled dancers like Ms. Ghouri who were already proficient.
Yesterday, she and Gill took first place on the leaderboard, scoring an impressive 119 out of 120 points. Ms. Hadland was right behind them with 118 points, while McCausland secured 116. This latest achievement seems to be propelling McCausland’s career upward, as BBC television executives are reportedly considering presenting opportunities for him.
As a devoted follower, I’m overjoyed that the series concluded on such an uplifting note, providing some respite after two turbulent incidents that rocked the show. First, Amanda Abbington accused Giovanni Pernice of bullying during rehearsals, which he vehemently denies. Later, Graziano Di Prima was dismissed following allegations of kicking his partner Zara McDermott.
