A silver medal and a royal accolade come as the 2024 Paralympics end
As a lifelong supporter of sports and an admirer of human spirit, I have been utterly captivated by the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics. The performances were nothing short of inspiring, filled with firsts, lasts, records broken, and moments etched in history. Among these moments, the final field event for Team Great Britain, shot put, was particularly gripping, especially Aled Davies’s heartwrenching silver medal performance.
This summer in Paris has been an exhilarating athletic journey, marked by numerous firsts, lasts, personal bests, and shattered records during the 2024 Olympics. To top it off, Team Great Britain made a memorable march down the Champs Elysees, setting the stage for a remarkable Paralympics performance. A total of 124 medals were earned by British athletes, with an impressive 49 being gold – surpassing their Tokyo Games record by eight.
One last thrill
At the conclusion of the team’s events in Paris 2024, the spotlight was on Aled Davies from Wales, who held the F42 world record going into the Games. In May 2024, he launched a shot put an impressive 15.60m, securing his position as the front-runner in his event with a score of 15.10 in the third round. However, in the fourth round, Kuwait’s Faisal Sorour managed to throw it only slightly farther at .20m and clinched the gold medal with a distance of 15.30m.
In our final field event of these Games it’s shot put SILVER for @AledDavies2012 👏#ParalympicsGB🥈

According to the BBC, Davies was “gutted” as he says that he wasn’t at his best:
What hurts is underperforming and that was it – I wasn’t the better man…I hope I haven’t let anyone down because I’ve worked so hard and there’s been so many obstacles, like everyone…There’s no excuses, but I’ll be back.
From my point of view, I proudly declare, “Nobody is close to my world record.” Regarding the competition at Stade de France, if I set aside my personal bias, it’s nothing short of astonishing.
A Royal response
A communication from our Monarch, The King, extends his congratulations to @ParalympicsGB and athletes across the Commonwealth for their remarkable achievements at the Paralympic Games held in Paris. For a comprehensive reading of his message, kindly follow this link: [Link]

Without a doubt, supporters of Team Great Britain wouldn’t dream of expressing disappointment. The Royal Family, in a post on their official site, showered nothing but admiration upon the Paralympic athletes from Great Britain, commending them for their outstanding representation.
Alongside praising the “many victories at this year’s competitions,” King Charles III also spoke in a warm and intimate manner.
Behind every medal won lies a wonderful story of courage commitment and true talent, matched by a determination that has taken you to the very top, We rejoice in your victories, while saluting and celebrating all those who have taken part, as well as thanking the support teams who play such a special part in your achievements. Your example has succeeded in inspiring, encouraging and lifting the hearts of all. Charles R
It’s indisputable among all fans of ParalympicsGB; we’ve been truly fortunate to bear witness to the achievements of these Paralympians this year, and we eagerly anticipate what lies ahead.
