A New Dino Crisis? There's Not 'A Whole Lot of Space For That' While Monster Hunter is Popular, According to Shinji Mikami

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment upon hearing Shunji Mikami’s comments about Dino Crisis. The roars of those colossal beasts from the past have echoed through many of my most memorable gaming moments.

Shunji Mikami, the brainchild behind Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, believes that the current popularity of Capcom’s Monster Hunter series might make it inopportune to introduce a new Dino Crisis game at this time. It’s an interesting stance considering the distinct differences between these two games.

Mikami expressed his shock during a conversation with Eurogamer upon learning that fans are eager for another Dino Crisis game. He continued, “Dinosaur awesomeness and the possibilities they offer have essentially been perfected by Monster Hunter in more contemporary times.”

Mikami stated, “Even if I were to consider creating a remake or new version of Dino Crisis, I don’t see much room for that genre at the moment given Monster Hunter’s massive popularity. However, it does come as a shock.”

Regardless of how surprised Mikami might be, Dino Crisis is certainly very high on the list of remakes, remasters, or sequels fans would like to see (you can add me to that list). Indeed, many were disappointed to see that Exoprimal had no connection to Dino Crisis, despite being a Capcom game featuring dinosaurs.

Mikami stated that Exoprimal’s concept differs significantly from Dino Crisis. It seems the fans had high anticipations, yet here we are.

Approximately five years past, Capcom reclaimed the rights to Dino Crisis and Darkstalkers brands, sparking enthusiasm among fans for potential new games, remakes, or upgrades. However, as of now, these expectations remain unfulfilled. Here’s to hoping!

Well, it seems another exciting title is on the horizon for us gamers – Monster Hunter Wilds, scheduled for release in 2025. Much like Dino Crisis, this game features fearsome beasts, but they share more in common by their menacing teeth rather than a close relationship.
