A new breed of thoroughbred: USAC's Mustang Cup to debut in 2025

As a seasoned racing enthusiast with a soft spot for Ford Mustangs and a knack for dirt track/short track racing, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming USAC Mustang Cup! With its debut set for 2025, this new series promises to be a thrilling addition to the motorsports scene.

The Mustang Challenge is getting a little brother.

The United States Auto Club (USAC), short for the United States Auto Club, has revealed plans for the introduction of the Mustang Cup in 2025. This new series is designed to serve as a stepping stone leading towards the Mustang Challenge within IMSA (International Motor Sports Association).

The main area of emphasis for the governing body, USAC, is the organization and regulation of dirt track or short track races, including events like Midgets, Sprint Cars, and altered stock cars.

USAC’s Mustang Cup is set to impress in 2025

“Mark Rushbrook, head of Ford Performance Global Motorsports, announced the arrival of Mustang Cup – a new platform for automotive enthusiasts to channel their love for racing. Mustang Cup serves as an entry point in our global sports car racing initiative, but it also provides opportunities for progression towards Mustang Challenge, Mustang GT4, and Mustang GT3.”

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m all set for the upcoming Mustang Cup! Just like in the ongoing Mustang Challenge, we’ll be driving the powerful Mustang Dark Horse R. To make it even more authentic, they’re giving us an option to team up with another driver, creating a truly immersive sports car experience.

Every weekend, we’ll have not one but two races, presented in a doubleheader style. These races will accumulate points towards both the Miles Cup and the Parnelli Cup.

The schedule was also released with info about the series and the there will be six event weekends, with 12 races in total.

Every weekend will consist of three thirty-minute training sessions, followed by two fifteen-minute qualifying rounds, with the main events lasting forty minutes each.

The first season of the series will commence at NOLA Motorsports Park on April 11th, ending on the 13th. Five other locations follow: Circuit of the Americas (COTA) from May 16th to 18th, Ozarks International Speedway (July 4th-6th), Road America (August 8th-10th), Lime Rock Park (October 17th-18th), and Virginia International Raceway (VIR) from November 7th-9th.

Additional details, including the participating teams and drivers, are expected to be revealed in the forthcoming months, culminating with the April race at NOLA.
