A must-watch teaser: Siobhan Finneran’s dark and mysterious new Netflix thriller gets first look

Get a first look at the cast of Netflix’s new drama, Unchosen, starring Siobhan Finneran, Christopher Eccleston (known for Doctor Who), and Asa Butterfield (Sex Education). The series, created and written by Julie Gearey (who has worked on shows like Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Coronation Street), is a mysterious story set within a close-knit religious community.

Rosie is happily married with a daughter and lives within a strict, secluded Christian community. But when a runaway convict named Sam enters their lives, Rosie begins to question everything she thought she knew about her world – and whether the community truly has her well-being at heart.

As her marriage falls apart, Sam seems to offer a way out. However, given his troubled history with crime, it’s unclear whether the real threat comes from the dangerous cult or from Sam himself.

What to Read Next

The upcoming film, previously known as Out of the Dust, was initially envisioned as a psychological thriller. Now called Unchosen, we’re getting our first look at the characters and some action from the movie.

Molly Windsor, known for her roles in Traces and Cheat, will play the lead character, Rosie. The story follows Rosie as she starts to doubt her beliefs within her religious community, especially after a newcomer named Sam (played by Fra Fee, from Lost Boys and Fairies) arrives. Asa Butterfield, famous for Sex Education, will play Rosie’s husband, marking his first television role since that show concluded.

We don’t know much about the characters played by Finneran, famous for her work on the BBC’s Happy Valley, and Eccleston, except that they’re named Mr. and Mrs. Phillips.

The trailer begins with a beautiful shot of a cheerful town, but the peaceful scene is undercut by unsettling music. A man in a suit, Mr. Phillips, can then be heard telling a group of people, “We are blessed to live our lives within this community.”

The scene shifts to a dark, stormy cloud, immediately changing the mood and suggesting hidden violence and control. These themes appear destined to come apart as the story progresses.

We don’t have a release date yet, but this looks like it will be something you won’t want to miss.
