The first trailer is out for *Murder Before Evensong*, a new cozy mystery drama set in the 1980s! The show stars Matthew Lewis and Amit Shah, known from *Happy Valley*. Check it out to get a sneak peek!
This six-episode show is adapted from Richard Coles’s 2022 novel. It stars Laurence Lewis as Canon Daniel Clement, a local priest who gets caught up in a murder investigation when a body is discovered in his church.
These events follow Daniel’s announcement of plans to update the church, which deeply split the town. When people start dying, Daniel is left to try and bring the divided community back together.

Alongside Shah, known for his role as Faisal Bhatti in season three of *Happy Valley*, *Murder Before Evensong* also stars Amanda Redman, Adam James, Tamzin Outhwaite, Francis Magee, Nina Toussaint-White, and Marion Bailey.
Peter Lewis, known for his role in *All Creatures Great and Small*, has expressed his excitement about joining the murder-mystery series. He said he was delighted to become part of the charming world of Champton, created by Richard Coles, and couldn’t wait to start filming.
I’ve long been a fan of his writing, especially the characters and stories he creates. I’m thrilled to be working with such a talented team and to have the chance to play Canon Clement – both for those who love the book and for people discovering it for the first time.
The first book in the Canon Clement Mysteries series, written by Coles, is being turned into a TV show. Nick Hicks-Beach, known for his work on *Midsomer Murders*, wrote the screenplay, and David Moore will direct.
