Over the years, enthusiasts have delighted in spotting Star Wars actors appearing in other notable franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Game of Thrones. But it’s unlikely that you might guess one film with many unexpected connections to a distant galactic realm.
In the 2018 film titled “Christopher Robin,” several actors who have previously worked on Star Wars productions are featured. For those not in the know, this movie is set within the universe of Winnie the Pooh and presents Christopher Robin as a grown man with a spouse and daughter.
Ewan McGregor, famously known for portraying Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel series, has also taken on the character again in a recent mini-series. His performance earned high praise, and there’s been buzz that he may reprise his role in the future, hinting at potential plans to return.
In addition to McGregor, two other actors also appeared in the movie who were previously known for their roles in Star Wars. One of them, Oliver Ford Davies, portrayed Sio Bibble (in the prequels), the Governor of Naboo, and he served as McGregor’s boss in “Christopher Robin.
In both series, Davies has a distinctive, intriguing rhythm in his speech, particularly noticeable due to his thick British pronunciation.
Amanda Lawrence portrayed Commander D’Acy in both “The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker,” where she took on a humorous character, depicting one of McGregor’s colleagues. Her performance was notably strong, exhibiting great range. In the sequel trilogy, Lawrence delivered a compelling portrayal of Commander D’Acy, demonstrating grace and authentic humanity.
Actor Matt Berry made an appearance on screen in “Christopher Robin,” but provided voice talent within the Star Wars universe. Specifically, he portrayed a police officer in a film, yet he lent his voice to the character of droid 8D8 for five episodes in “The Book of Boba Fett.” In this series, the droid acted as a go-between for Fett throughout the storyline.
In both film series, the final actor is a versatile vocal artist who boasts more than 400 different roles in his repertoire. Notably, Jim Cummings is the voice behind Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, characters he has lent his talent to since the late 1980s.
He played the well-known pirate character Hondo Ohnaka, who appears in both “Clone Wars” and “Rebels,” as well as various other parts of the franchise. His performance of this role has gained popularity over time. In 2013, Cummings was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for his voicing of Hondo in “Clone Wars.” Additionally, he received an Emmy nomination in 2009 for his work as the voice of Winnie the Pooh.
The franchises cater wonderfully to family entertainment, allowing multiple generations to share their enthusiasm. These series also feature actors from both, appearing in numerous movies and productions together.
