A Minecraft Movie Sequel Officially Reveals Title & First Look at Alex

The next installment of A Minecraft Movie will be released in theaters next summer. The official title of the sequel has been revealed, and a first glimpse of Kirsten Dunst as her character, Alex, has also been shared.

Big news for fans of the first Minecraft movie! This weekend, the sequel officially got its title: A Minecraft Movie Squared. They dropped the news on X with a look at the new logo, but that wasn’t all. The Minecraft YouTube channel also posted a video from Twitchcon Rotterdam showing the title reveal to a live audience, and even some behind-the-scenes footage from the set. And, excitingly, we finally get our first glimpse of Dunst’s Alex – you can check it out around the 18-minute mark in the video linked below. Definitely worth a watch!

As a longtime fan of Minecraft, I was thrilled to finally get a proper look at Alex in the post-credit scene for the first movie, and even more excited to see her fully realized in the upcoming sequel. Alongside Jack Black’s Steve, she’s a core character from the game, and while we knew Kirsten Dunst was cast, this is our first real glimpse of her Alex. Previously, we only saw her from behind, portrayed by Alice May Connolly and voiced by Kate McKinnon in that brief tease. Seeing Dunst step into the role fully is a big win for fans like me.

Joining the cast of A Minecraft Movie Squared are returning favorites like Jason Momoa as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Jennifer Coolidge as Marlene, and Matt Berry voicing the character Nitwit. Jared Hess returns as director, having co-written the script with Chris Galletta.
