The upcoming “Minecraft” film has shattered previous records, earning the title of the largest pre-release earnings for any movie based on a video game.
With a jaw-dropping $10.55 million in previews, the highly anticipated movie adaptation of Minecraft titled “A Minecraft Film” has shattered the previous preview record for a film derived from a video game (as reported by Deadline)).
Under the direction of Jared Hess, the movie surpassed the $10.3 million pre-release earnings that were garnered by the Blumhouse and Universal’s movie adaptation of the video game Five Nights at Freddy’s. In simpler terms, the film made more money during its preview than what was earned by the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ movie before it officially hit theaters.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, the whopping $10.55 million sound impressive, but it’s crucial to remember that 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros Movie” didn’t have previews because it premiered on a Wednesday. Frankly, it’s hard to imagine “Minecraft” outdoing Mario’s staggering $204.6 million five-day US opening haul.
In October 2023, the game Five Nights at Freddy’s earned nearly $40 million on its debut day, and amassed a total of $80 million during its first weekend.
Initially, predictions suggested that a Minecraft movie would earn around $75 million during its debut weekend. However, with Freddy’s preview numbers now in the past, it remains to be seen whether the Minecraft movie can exceed this amount.
The upcoming movie adaptation of the widely beloved video game Minecraft has surpassed all advance showings of the Sonic the Hedgehog films so far. Specifically, Sonic 1 earned $3 million during previews, Sonic 2 made $5 million, and Sonic 3 took in an impressive $6.5 million before its official release.
Featuring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Jennifer Coolidge, the movie titled “A Minecraft Movie” is being lauded as “ridiculously funny” based on initial audience responses.
#A Minecraft Movie, to be frank, is surprisingly laugh-out-loud funny,” Christopher wrote on X. “Regrettably, Jennifer Coolidge and Emma Myers’ roles seem underutilized given their storylines. Are the visuals mind-blowing? Not particularly. But is this a wildly entertaining experience at the theater? Absolutely.
