A Marvel Hero Returns in Daredevil: Born Again & It’s Not Jessica Jones

Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again introduces a new hero to the streets. This character, motivated by loss and a pursuit of justice, is taking over for a previous vigilante, but isn’t quite the hero viewers expected.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 introduces a new White Tiger

In Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 3, titled “The Scales & The Sword,” we meet Angela del Toro (played by Camila Rodriguez) as the new White Tiger. Angela is the niece of the original White Tiger, Hector Ayala, who was killed by the Anti-Vigilante Task Force in the previous season.

During Daredevil’s attack on Kingpin’s Red Hook base, Angela briefly wears parts of Hector’s outfit, including his Amulet of Power. She then uses his knives to disable the AVTF vehicles and manages to drive several hostages to safety in an armored car.

The show never directly refers to her as “White Tiger,” but the first season definitely hinted at her becoming one.

In Episode 2, Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) unexpectedly calls Matt Murdock a hero, and asks the public to help locate him after he disappears. Fisk explains to his team that exposing Daredevil’s true identity as Matt Murdock would be a mistake, as Matt was publicly credited with saving the mayor’s life. This tactic complicates things for both Matt Murdock and his secret life as Daredevil.

The latest episode reveals that BB Urich (Genneya Walton) is behind the “City Without Fear” broadcasts, disguising herself with a mask similar to Wilson Fisk’s and using a namecard identifying her as “Mayor Kingpin.” Meanwhile, Cole North (Jeremy Isaiah Earl) unexpectedly returns, bearing only facial scars after surviving the apartment explosion from Season 1. Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) travels to Clinton Church in search of Sister Maggie, who is currently on a year-long sabbatical in Rome.

Let’s talk about Angela del Toro. First appearing in the comics back in 2004 thanks to Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, she’s not just a familiar face – she’s a powerhouse. We’re talking superhuman strength, speed, and a serious healing factor, all fueled by these mystical Amulets of Power. But what really struck me about her origin is the guidance she received from her uncle, Hector. Before he passed, he pushed her to forge her own path, to rely on herself. And you really see that independence play out as she bravely steps into his shoes – or, more accurately, builds upon his legacy. It’s a compelling character arc, rooted in a powerful message of self-reliance.
