A major Marvel star is joining the Star Trek universe

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed the rise and fall of numerous franchises that have shaped the gaming landscape. From the iconic adventures of Link in the Legend of Zelda series to the thrilling battles in the Mass Effect universe, each game has left an indelible mark on me.

The Star Trek universe isn’t shy about stardom. This franchise, which catapulted William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy into pop culture icons, has also boosted the careers of luminaries like Sir Patrick Stewart and Chris Pine (in the Kelvin Timeline films). It now shines a light on actors from this generation such as Sonequa Martin-Green on Star Trek: Discovery and Anson Mount in spinoff series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. One of the numerous (many) reasons it resonates with people of all ages is that it has been steered by stars from various generations.

Without a doubt, one of the most successful film franchises currently is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kicking off in 2008 with “Iron Man,” it significantly boosted the careers of actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo. Moreover, it paved the way for newcomers such as Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston to establish themselves in Hollywood. To top it off, this franchise has accumulated a staggering $30 billion at the box office from its 34 films.

Over time, several Marvel actors have appeared in the Star Trek universe, but what’s truly exciting is that a significant actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is set to make their debut in the Star Trek franchise, according to recent confirmations.

She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany to appear in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

It’s been announced that Tatiana Maslany will make an appearance on the initial season of “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy”, according to Variety. This news was shared at New York Comic-Con, where it was also disclosed that the series has already been renewed for a second season – before its first episode has even aired. This move demonstrates the confidence that the service has in the enduring popularity of the iconic franchise.

The new series at Starfleet Academy is centered around a fresh crew of cadets, marking over a century since the last change in leadership. As for Maslany’s character, we don’t know much about it yet, but the show boasts an exciting ensemble headed by Holly Hunter. Tig Notaro returns from Star Trek: Discovery as Denise “Jett” Reno, and Robert Picardo reprises his iconic Star Trek role as The Doctor.

Maslany is certain to bring an exciting new dynamic to the program, as she’s a highly talented actress who has shown her prowess on shows like Orphan Black, where she won an Emmy. To Marvel enthusiasts, she may be particularly recognized for her role as Jennifer Walters, also known as She-Hulk, in Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.

A major Marvel star is joining the Star Trek universe

2022 saw the debut of the Marvel Television series on Disney Plus, with a single season having been aired so far. This show has brought us into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s interpretation of the Jade Giantess. The series was generally praised by both fans and critics, largely due to Maslany’s impressive acting and clever dialogue. However, it faced criticism regarding its CGI, while some viewers felt that a sitcom format didn’t quite fit within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One reason for its success is its television-style format, which sets it apart from many other Marvel productions. Being streamed on Disney Plus instead of in a cinema allows it to fully embrace the feel of a traditional TV show. Even after two years, it remains one of the shows that effectively captures this essence, with only WandaVision and Agatha All Along also managing to achieve this TV-like quality.

It’s uncertain when Tatiana Maslany will take on the role again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s hinted that Disney might not be planning a second season of “She-Hulk” because of its high budget, but sources have claimed that the character could reappear in various other productions, possibly even “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.

However, the star is all set to leave a mark on yet another iconic series, and we’re eagerly anticipating her performance!
