The screenplay for “Mother’s Pride” was penned by the same duo who brought us “Fisherman’s Friends,” namely Nick Moorcroft and Meg Leonard. Interestingly, in this case, it’s Nick Moorcroft who is directing the project, with Meg Leonard taking on the role of executive producer.
In an earlier conversation with The Guardian, the creators characterized the film as a heartfelt tribute to family, local communities, traditional ales, and overlooked rural customs of Great Britain.
Moved by the imminent closure of local taverns, this pair decided to delve into significant problems while crafting humor in their upcoming work.
Moorcroft stated, “Pubs play a crucial role in communities, fostering connections among people. This is particularly significant during these challenging Covid times as they combat feelings of loneliness and social isolation. However, during our site visits, we found many pubs that have been vacant for two whole years, with no signs of reopening – effectively losing their identity as pubs forever. Each of these establishments holds a rich history and countless memories. It’s truly heartbreaking.
Leonard explained that the losses felt especially significant during a time when everyone is struggling with a lack of personal interaction, due to Covid-19. This is why he believes their movie is crucial to produce at this moment in time.
