The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to thrive with new movies and shows on Disney+. After years of dedicated fans following the storyline, some heroes have become particularly popular, with Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch being a standout. Olsen recently addressed rumors that she once felt above working on Marvel projects.
What we know about in Avengers: Doomsday, but Olsen apparently won’t be appearing as Wanda. Still, fans are hoping she pops up in upcoming Marvel movies, sooner rather than later. While appearing on Mythical Kitchen, the Emmy-nominated actress spoke about originally wanting to stay out of the public eye, offering:
By that point, I’d accepted that avoiding fame wasn’t going to happen. If I had been trying to stay out of the spotlight, joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe would have been the absolute worst way to go about it.
Elizabeth Olsen had already been working as an actress, but her role as Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe really made her famous. She first appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, then returned in Captain America: Civil War, and gradually became a more important character in the MCU.

Disney+ subscriptions start at $11.99 per month with ads. It’s the place to watch Marvel Cinematic Universe content, including shows featuring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff. You can remove ads for $18.99 a month, or save 16% by paying $189.99 upfront for a full year. See the deal here.
Elizabeth Olsen discussed how she started with a small role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and gradually grew into one of its most beloved characters. She explained it this way:
I initially agreed to participate in one or two projects, thinking I’d have a small role. I was excited about the chance to work on something larger in scope, especially since I had previously worked on the Godzilla film.
The actress mentioned her part in the 2014 Godzilla film, which was a massive hit. Despite being known for independent movies, she had to work hard to land bigger roles in franchises, including her popular character, Wanda Maximoff. She went on to explain:
I wondered why I wasn’t getting considered for bigger movie roles. My agent explained that people assumed I only wanted to work on independent films. I told them that wasn’t true – I enjoyed independent films, but I also loved blockbuster movies like Iron Man and Indiana Jones. I started meeting with different studios, and that’s how I ended up with Marvel.
Wanda Maximoff’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was impactful – she first appeared in an Avengers film instead of getting her own movie. Initially presented as a villain in Age of Ultron, she evolved into a hero and continued to play a key role in Captain America: Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. Her popularity soared with WandaVision, a highly successful TV series that made her a fan favorite within the MCU.
Ever since the end of Doctor Strange 2 – where her character appeared to give her life to destroy the Darkhold in different universes – people have been curious about whether Elizabeth Olsen will continue playing the role. While she’s said she isn’t in Doomsday, many fans are still hoping for a surprise appearance.
The mystery will be solved when Avengers: Doomsday comes out in theaters on December 18th of next year as part of the 2026 film lineup. Many fans are eager to see Wanda Maximoff return, and they hope directors The Russo Brothers have included her in their upcoming movies.
