As a long-time viewer, I’m seeing the world of Westeros continue to grow, and I’m excited about it! HBO is adding another series to the Game of Thrones universe with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Even though the original show wrapped up in 2019, it’s clear the network isn’t done with this world – and we can expect even more spinoffs beyond House of the Dragon and this new one. It’s a testament to how captivating that initial series was.

As a huge fan of George R.R. Martin’s work, I was thrilled to hear about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It’s based on his Tales of Dunk and Egg stories, which are set in the same world as Game of Thrones, but about a century earlier. The show follows the adventures of a wandering knight, Dunk, and his young squire, Egg – it’s a really fun look at that world before the events we all know and love.

Even before the first season aired, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was picked up for a second season. Season 2 is planned to cover the second story in George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series, called “The Sworn Sword.” Production has already begun, and the new season is currently scheduled for release in 2027. Right now, though, everyone is focused on the details surrounding the premiere of season 1.

It’s been over a year and a half since a new show from the world of Game of Thrones was on HBO, but the wait is finally over. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere on January 18, 2026, at 10 pm Eastern and Pacific time on HBO, and will also be available to stream on Max (formerly HBO Max) at the same time. While previous seasons of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon used to premiere an hour earlier, that time slot is now occupied by HBO’s series Industry.

Official Episode Release Schedule For A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 1

Following the pattern of previous shows, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will release new episodes every Sunday. However, this season will be shorter than most Game of Thrones seasons. Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have six episodes – the same number as Game of Thrones season 8. Most other seasons of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have included between seven and ten episodes.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 1 Episode Runtimes

The new show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will have shorter episodes than Game of Thrones. Most episodes in the first season will be between 31 and 37 minutes long – the premiere episode is a bit longer at 42 minutes. This shorter length makes sense because the show is based on shorter stories than the original series.
