“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is a new series from George R.R. Martin, set in the world of “Game of Thrones.” It’s a prequel to that show and a sequel to “House of the Dragon.” The story mainly takes place during a tournament at Ashford, and if you’re having trouble remembering where all the locations in Westeros are, we’ve got you covered. Think of Westeros as a large Great Britain – King’s Landing is similar to London – but it’s easy to forget details like where Dragonstone and the Stepstones are. We’ve created detailed maps of Westeros and Essos, marking all the important places from “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “Game of Thrones,” and “House of the Dragon.” We’ve left out Sothoryos because nothing significant happens there, and it’s size is unknown. You can also safely ignore Ulthos, a mysterious continent you’ve likely never heard of.

1. Ashford
The tournament where Ser Duncan and Egg first meet, setting in motion a series of events that will have a lasting impact.
2
1. Ashford

If Westeros were like Great Britain, the town of Ashford would be similar to Banbury – centrally located in the countryside, but not a major city. It’s a typical town in The Reach, known for its fertile farmland, a nearby river, and a large field often used for tournaments.

2. Dragonstone

The Targaryen family originated from this place, long before Aegon’s Conquest, and it’s currently home to Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith.
4
2. Dragonstone

Throughout much of Game of Thrones, Dragonstone was controlled by Stannis Baratheon. (Ser Davos famously snuck onions in during a siege, and was knighted for his efforts.) Daenerys Targaryen retook the castle at the start of season seven, which makes sense, as it was her birthplace.

3. Sunspear, Dorne

That’s Prince Doran of Dorne, shortly before being assassinated by his family.
6
3. Dorne and the Stepstones

Dorne, known for a less popular storyline in Game of Thrones, is the homeland of Prince Oberyn and the Sand Snakes. It’s a hot, arid region with a distinct Spanish influence – visually appealing, but often considered uneventful. Just east of Dorne lie the Stepstones, a chain of small islands that serve as a quick passage between Westeros and Essos. The Stepstones were once a base for the Crab Feeder, who, allied with the Triarchy (a group of Essos free cities), targeted pirates and strengthened the enemies of the Targaryens.

4. Braavos

Here’s Arya regarding the Titan of Braavos shortly before being stabbed by The Waif.
8
4. Braavos

Braavos is the city where Arya found refuge after leaving Westeros. It’s home to Syrio Forel, a renowned fencing master who taught her, and where she also encountered Jaqen H’ghar and trained with the mysterious Faceless Men. The city is known for its many canals and a massive statue of a Titan.

5. The Eyrie

That was Ser Vardis Egan getting thrown out the Moon Door by Bronn. It’s easy to forget about him, honestly. (Most people barely remember him.)
10
5. The Eyrie

The Eyrie is a nearly impenetrable castle in the Vale, a rich and sheltered region surrounded by mountains. It belonged to Lysa Arryn and was later inherited by her weak son, Robin. One of its notable inhabitants is Mord, who works as the castle’s jailer.

6. Casterly Rock

Don’t remember it? It only featured briefly in season seven of GoT.
12
6. Casterly Rock

Though we didn’t see much of it on screen, Casterly Rock is the ancestral home of the wealthy Lannister family, and is famously built atop vast gold deposits.

7. King’s Landing

It doesn’t look like this any more, not since Cersei blew up the Great Sept of Baelor.
14
7. King’s Landing

Key sights include the Red Keep, the royal castle where the Iron Throne is located, and the remains of the Great Sept of Baelor. When you visit, be sure to experience the distinctive atmosphere of Littlefinger’s brothels and the sights and smells of the Flea Bottom district.
15
8. The Iron Islands

How did they build those castles, eh?
16
8. The Iron Islands

Theon Greyjoy comes from a bleak and windswept home amongst the Iron Islands. The Greyjoys’ motto, ‘We Do Not Sow,’ reflects the harsh landscape – don’t expect to find much farmland there. Instead, you’ll find skilled sailors and raiders, people devoted to a strange religion, plenty of sheep, and a history of families marrying close relatives.
17
9. Meereen

Whoops…
18
9. Meereen

Daenerys spent a long time in Meereen, one of the three oldest cities on Slavers’ Bay (along with Yunkai and Astapor). The city is known for its large pyramid and once featured a statue of a harpy. Later, it became home to many freed slaves and saw the downfall of the former ruling class, the Wise Masters.

10. Oldtown

Here are Sam and Gilly on their way in.

10. Oldtown

Oldtown feels a lot like those old university towns you see in movies, like medieval Oxford or Cambridge. It’s basically where all the smartest people go – it’s home to the Citadel, this huge tower where they train all the Maesters in the land. I remember hearing Samwell Tarly did some studying there, getting all book-smart and everything.
